Buying a 16710 GMT II from chrono24
Hi guys,
Been thinking of buying a GMT II 16710 from chrono24. Is there like a standard, time-tested procedure in such a case? By this I mean, first you check all the pics, make sure the production year indicated matches the details (i.e. the box style, SEL vs HELs), the watch isn't (overly) polished, etc... After you receive the watch, do you go with it to an AD to have the watch "authenticated"? Make sure it was not stolen, etc.? I think you have 2 weeks to return the watch in case you are not satisfied... How would you go about it? Thanks and have a nice day, W |

That’s pretty much exactly how I went about it when I bought one a year ago. Not sure I can add anything really. I never felt in doubt that the watch was genuine and as described though, but I did bring it to RSC in London to get a Pepsi insert and they logged the serial number and assured me it was a ‘nice watch’! Good luck.

I would definitely add "ask questions to the seller". If you know what you want, make sure to check, so that should you later find out that they provided false information, this helps your case (e.g. free shipping for return). It also helps to weed out unprofessional/not reliable sellers. You buy the seller first.

How do you assess the seller online and if they sell authentic ones or not?

Buy the seller first, so you don’t worry about its authenticity.

Probably because of the 6.5 % plus whatever on top for the escrow Chrono charges to list there. If the seller is reliable I usually try and contact them directly via their website and see if I can get the saving.

I'd much rather buy from here on the forum or from one of the more popular vintage guys (a lot of them post ads on this forum).

I have bought 2 watches from Chrono24, Speedmaster pro Apollo XV 35th and Seamaster.
Both from Italy (I know many who don’t recommend). I asked extra close up photos via Email, asked if the watch is genuine, if it had some visible marks, photo of serial and card - that they match etc. I contacted many sellers but these 2 had good reviews, I cheked their web pages, googled them, and so on. Also both sellers wrote back fast with asked info and photos attached. So buy the seller. With Apollo XV I also called to seller and asked about freight and insurance. |
