Checking watch time

Involves checking time with atomic clock and synchronise watch. Check a day/week/month or so later to see the difference. Rolex “should“ be -2 to +2 per day.

Easier way: Download Toolwatch app.

Don’t get too hung up on it unless major deviations from above.
Cue posts from others stating 86400 seconds in a day, etc. ;)

Losing 2 minutes a year is pretty impressive, that's what I measured my sub at.

It's actually amazing considering it's all mechanical and doesn't need charging in a world of smart devices.

I prefer not to check.

Same as using a loupe, don’t do it

How do you check it?

I would have thought by looking at it and seeing if it’s remained fairly true to the time via a phone or similar.

I used to care but don't really anymore. I think I got an app previously on my phone, some sort of atomic clock app :)

I recommend the WatchTracker app for figuring out the time deviation.

I think it’s worth while to check the accuracey every now and then. I know what the modern standard is, but I’m ok with +/- 10 a day. More than that and I personally would consider servicing. I enjoy setting my watch to the exact time. I do it on Sundays whilst reading the paper and drinking coffee before the house is awake. Just a brief moment to marvel at all that is going on inside that little case. Incidentally, i gain +2 a day.

I use the Twixt app. Simply take a photo of your dial and align the hour, minute, and seconds hand with the markers then repeat again after 24 hours. I find it more accurate than the Toolwatch app.

WatchCheck app on android works great. You can also do it manually by going on www.time.is

I use zulutime.net

I used it in the army when I was my platoon RTO to set the time on radios so I just kept using it to check my watches against.

Most people probably prefer fast because once it's say a minute fast, you can just hack the movement and let the atomic clock catch up and re sync.

Preference is for a watch to run fast, than to run slow as it is easier to regulate.

Really depends what is an acceptable deviation to you?
