Buyer’s Remorse

Any of you ever suffer from it?

Not because you don’t want the watch, but because every now and again you realise just how much you have spent/are spending on this insane obsession

I have a wobble every now and again

My buyers remorse is never on the money spent, it would be in a situation where I just fell out of love with the watch and probably should’ve waited for the one that your crazy about.

I do sometimes, but then I remind myself that I love watches that are collectors pieces and should retain value. Buying a watch like these is just a shift into a less liquid asset IMO.

It could be worse, you could have a boating obsession?

Nope - as I take a long time to research and understand the watch and to rationalise and make sure I want it.
Therefore very unlikely there will be a scenario I haven’t considered so happy with my purchase, price, etc.

Same with all major purchases - cars, houses, etc.
Eg took 6 months to purchase my recent car and I was only changing from the old model to the new model!

I tend to suffer more from sellers remorse than buyers remorse.

I regretted buying a few Tudors when I got more Rolex. But I sold the Tudors in the end.

Never with a Rolex because, although I have no intention of selling, I know that if I did ever regret a purchase I could sell and get my money back (and then some).

To add on to that,
It is more relative to one’s financial situation in life.

Is buying your desired watch equivalent to your 1 year or 1 month salary?

I think remorse comes when it takes a year or significantly longer to recover what you spent.

I don’t have buyers remorse on things I really want :
A long time ago I learned you get what you pay for .
Instead of settling to save money you’ll wind up spending
more in the long run because your heart/soul will not be
happy and content buying a substitute.

Especially on a watch that would hold its value for the most part .
A Rolex and many other brands is like $$$ in the bank anywhere
in the world...

My brother has a corvette obsession like someone else mentioned.
Now that’s a whole other situation where I personally would have
buyers remorse ...

I do. I recently purchased a GMT II CHNR. Occasionally I thing WTF did I spend so much $$ on a watch - then I wear it (it is beautiful) and look at the value of the time piece and think I need to buy another!

I was on a waiting list to purchase and was expecting to wait 6 months - or at least 3-4. Well, I got the call in 3 weeks and could not pass up the opportunity. I am still moving money around to pay for it, but once all the transfers are complete I do not expect to have those passing regrets any more.

No buyers remorse here... I love my DJ so much that every time I look at it, I forget what time it is :)

If its Rolex you can get sell. If not decide how bad your remorse is, take the hit, sun rises anew the next day.

Many of us have been there. I remember one particular impulseish kind of a JLC Master Calendar. Super nice watch no doubt. But what I wanted was a Patek. Guess what happened? Yes, I lost $$ and had the Patek within 6 months. I was so much happier. I later lost my obsession with Patek anyways but never Rolex. We all come back to home.

This - Before buying my first watch, people told me you should buy XXX, it's an entry level Rolex, which I wasn't crazy about it. I waited and went with the one I absolutely loved! No regrets!

Pretty much - if you find a watch you love, you won't regret it. Find something you "kinda like", then maybe you'll regret it later down the line.

Yep. For most (self included) it’s a lot of $ for a watch. Passes pretty quickly. Go out and put the first scratch on it.
