NEED YOUR help on decision!!!!!

Been waiting for Rolex DJ from my AD for 3 weeks now. Here’s the thing... My personal jeweler(grey market) just called and said he just picked up a brand new DJ in England last week. Wants to know if I’d like to buy that one since it’s the exact one I’m waiting on from AD. Says the warranty card is in someone else’s name but if ever I need a service he will send to Rolex and have serviced no issue. Should I buy this watch from him even though the warranty card is in someone else’s name? Since it was literally purchased from an AD in england on 8/20 do I need to tell him he should discount even more? Does any of this lower resale value or trade in down the line if not in my name?

Warranty card in another name is not a factor if you need to use the warranty. Pretty standard for most to have a filled out warranty card. If the price is good then get the watch early. A DJ should get a discount.

Won’t affect you one bit. If it’s with box and papers no one will care whose name is on the card. Get it especially if it’s cheaper or same price.

Doesnt matter the name on the card, as long as the watch is under warranty. Resale value wont take a hit based on whether your name is on warranty card or not. If going grey, no harm in asking for more discount. Most likely you will get it because greys want to move inventory quick knowing the watch is not a sports watch.

So the consensus is I should buy the watch from my trusted private grey dealer instead of waiting for one to come in who knows when?????

Having a different name on the card will not effect the warranty. Id say wait it out since your asking. It took four weeks for mine to show up after i ordered it and paid in full. It was an allocated DJ41 and that was this past October. I know since then it seems to take longer by what my AD just told me a few days ago.

Warranty follows the watch.

If the price is right, go for it but if you can wait, it may help you build up a bit of a rapport with your AD.

I got a SS Datejust 41 with domed bezel, oyster bracelet, and white dial from DavidSW for well below MSRP and had it on my wrist in 24 hours.

This. Especially if you want something else down the line.

If anything my grey dealer is charging me a little less or worst case the exact same amount of all the ADs in the area are charging me.

The grey dealer should give you a 10-20% discount off retail. DJ trade below list

Let’s hope that is the case but I doubt he will budge that much.. although I buy ALL of my jeweler off of them this is the first time working with their other family member in charge of watches. In the end I visited 4 of the ADs in my area and not one of the bastards would budge off the 12,700 sticker price on DJ. Not one!!

Are you getting the TT chocolate dial? If so, then DSW has one below list.

15% off Retail ...and NO Mass. sales tax ?....looks like a great deal to me.
Do not worry about resale value ...it all depends when you will decide to sell
ie. 10 years from now you will make money - 6 months from now you will lose money
...your choice.

If I can get him down on price yes but won’t know if he will budge until tmrw. He swears it’s brand new so I figure the sell date of watch might be on warranty card? I wonder where I can look up the serial number to confirm it was manufactured this year...!?

And that MA sales tax is BS. Since I have another address in a no tax state I have all my jewelry mailed there....

He got the English sales tax back when he bought it = 20%
from watches of Switzerland or mappin and Webb usually at LHR
Possibly a little discount too...DJs do not fly out of the jewelry cases
I doubt he will be able to sell anytime soon at retail or close to it
