Comex double red , info wanted
Hi I’m new to this site and have little knowledge of watches
My friend bought this Rolex from an old friend of ours who use to dive for comex Serial no says it’s a 1968 watch purchased from comex , it came with original invoice and paperwork, has anyone got a rough idea of value ? Thanks |

Beautiful watch. Do you know the service history. The patina of the hands don't match the markers perhaps the hands have been changed Not that uncommon for the watch. I think the best way to find out what the watch is worth is to check the sold lots at the auction houses Christies, Sothebys, and Bonhams . Bear in mind you usually pay a sellers fee of about 10% of the hammer price . Or you can send a photo to the auction houses and they can give you a rough estimate of the value, Hope this helps

Mark 2 dial is what the crown looks like... hands, insert, and crystal probably replaced at service....still worth the price of a house I’m sure if it’s legit....how big of a house only someone buying it can tell you that...something like that should be in a big auction house if planning on selling it

It looks like a nice Mark 2 / smudge crown dial DRSD.
Hands, insert and bracelet may indeed have been replaced, but not the end of the world. In general Rolex terms, this is from a batch of DRSDs that was at least several hundred and possibly as many as a thousand in number. Expect a IV.67 case-back bearing the last three digits of the case number. Almost exactly a year ago, by chance, I appraised a watch with case number around a dozen away from this one : https://www.miltonaires.com/7400/thi...5-mark-ii-dial So far, so good --- and a DRSD Mk II is in itself a highly desirable and valuable watch. Separately, though, we should consider the Comex angle. Comex DRSD does exist. However, many divers also purchased their own watches privately. The Comex stationery illustrated may record the sale from one person to another, but is there anything further to suggest that the watch was originally supplied to or sold by Comex itself ? There would be a great difference in value between a DRSD proven to have been supplied to Comex and one which was a private purchase, even if sold by one Comex diver to another. The serial numbers of the issues drsd are pretty established and close together ( plus of course an issue number on the back ) this does not fall in that range .
Comex did offer employees good deals/discounted access to retail watches for private purchase |
