1984 GMT..I may have screwed up !
I'll probably hate the replies..but..here goes...I've had a lot of Rolex's over the years..and about 15 years ago a friend called me to see if I was interested in his 1984 GMT. He was in Special Forces..and bought it in Germany at the PX. I have the box..Rolex paperwork and original receipt. He wore it..hard !. After a while I had a Rolex dealer put an aftermarket gold bezel on it..along with gold winder and hands. I had a gold/stainless bracelet that I put on it..I seldom wore it..and still have all the paperwork and box... It was serviced at the same time..and runs great...My question..have a I ruined a valuable watch ? thanks..JV..

Do you have the original parts that you swap out? Even if you don’t consider this is a TT gmt I don’t think the value is any where near a vintage SS gmt. More experts will chime in soon

I'd source the parts needed (genuine of course) and bring it back to its former glory! In the state it's in, yes, the value has been GREATLY reduced.

Luckily, these are all parts that can be replaced. Some will be a bit pricey but everything you did is reversible. If the gold parts you put on the watch are factory Rolex then you can sell them to help fund the correct parts. The best thing you did was holding onto the warranty paper and box. That adds quite a bit of value to the piece.

Short answer- ya, it’s worthless to most collectors. If you love it, that’s all that matters. You could probably switch it back for a couple thousand bucks. Bracelet- $1200, winders-i assume you mean crown , maybe a few hundred if that, bezel and insert, $1500 maybe? Call it 3k and i imagine it’s back to its former glory.

Key question that needs to be answered for meaningful replies:
Do you still have the original SS parts? |

I have a friend who did the exact same thing, and wears it as a TT with rootbeer insert. Of course, he still has the original parts, and hopefully the OP saved them as well.

Here's what I found..Original box..with outer cardboard box. Has 4 brochures..and 4 tags ..One of which gives the price..$650..The Guarantee is in a holder..and has 902...8566753 paper punched into it. I found the original SS bezel with Pepsi insert,...along with 6 other inserts ?? 4 Oyster bracelets..Don't know how to tell a real one..but I think a couple are. I've had a couple Subs since I bought this one..Also..another Green wood lined box with ..68 00 08 on it.. a couple aftermarket Jubilee and Oyster bracelets that were never used...One has solid ends.. and a blue /green color hinged Rolex box that I remember getting in 1969..along with my 2 first Rolexes. Didn't find the hands and winder. Is it looking any better ? I think I'll give it to my son..but he needs to know what he has...thanks..jv..

Yes. I would keep the mods for your Seiko. That being said, if you like it, it doesn't matter that the value is less. Ouch that hurt to say lol |

I believe the max size on this forum is 1200 pixels on the longer side. Just about every camera produces pictures way bigger than that. I use Corel PhotoPaint, a poor man's clone of PhotoShop, to resize my images down when needed.

Doesn’t sound like you changed the dial so it can be returned to normal for a little money.
You did no worse to it than Rolex would have done if you were to send it in and tell them Replace all worn parts |

The difference between an “aftermarket” bracelet and an “authentic bracelet” is that an aftermarket will not have Rolex markings. Because if it does, then this is what we call a fake bracelet. A Fake and an aftermarket are different animals. You can have an aftermarket jubilee or oyster style bracelet...but if it’s made with Rolex markings and NOT made by Rolex, that’s a fake plain and simple. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

It would have been nice to have the hands, since they presumably match the dial. The crown is not such a big deal IMO.

A picture is worth a lot of guessing. I assume it’s 16750 with hopefully original good condition matte dial, which is the most valuable part of the watch. If it is, then your problems r not biggies. You found the bezel with Pepsi insert, hopefully original, which is good. The hands n crown r next, which r not hard to find. If u contact springer, he will sort you out. As for the bracelet, if u r patient, they come up often enough n still reasonably priced.
Assuming it’s in good condition, when you have sourced all the correct part, its value is over $10k even without B & P. So I say u r doing well there. Lastly, pics please. I blame it on autoconnect. |

Pics for sure but all is not lost by any stretch. Take up Springer's offer to help, he will sell you genuine and correct parts for this project. Do it right and you will be just fine here.
