What was your first Rolex?

Another thread got me wondering: What was your first Rolex? Do you still own it? Any story behind it?

Here’s mine. A 1980s DJ. My wife bought it for me when we were dating because she knew I always wanted a Rolex.

116710blnr. purchased in 2015 in vienna whilst on my last family trip with my ailing stepfather; i will own it until the day i die. it has seen more wrist time than any other in my collection, aside from the watches i owned previously (breitling chrono avenger. daily for 7 years; omega seamaster PO 600pro, daily for 6 years). if i had to sell my entire collection, including my brand new 126710blro, i’d keep batman. i adore it.

Walked into an AD Jan 2 this year asking about a Sub. After a discussion around availability this appeared from the safe. Didn’t realize how lucky I was until digging into TRF a few weeks later. Followed quickly with a polar Ex 2, then a 16710. Pretty content at the moment - which is convenient given the current market..

1997 -16610 Sub. Sold it in 2012 as I wanted something larger for my Shrek wrists! Funny to think back to that day, I tried on the SD and thought, who the heck would buy such a tank of a watch!

My first was a sea dweller. (Not on the list )

For years, I had my mind set on a DSSD but when it came down to it, it was just too bulky. Couldn't be happier with my choice. Its beefy but easy to wear.

For as long as I can remember when the wife and I'd go shopping at the Mall I'd checkout the Rolex counter in every jewelry store. At the time I couldn't afford a Rolex but it was fun to look. Well in '88 I was promoted to Lieutenant on my police department and received a gift from my wife. It was a Rolex, Explorer II, black dial. At that time they were $1,500.00, quite expensive so needless to say I was very surprised. She had saved up her funds for several years. I wore the watch everyday for the next twenty three years then traded up to a Submariner. With her permission of course.

I just noticed my Explorer II was just like the photo above in post #23 by jerseyb.
