Has anyone made the jump from DJ to white gold DD
Thinking about going up the ranks to the DD. Don’t think YG or RG is for me.
Can anyone share their experiences and thoughts after some time with a WG in comparison to the DJ? Thanks! |

Funny you ask. I wore a 36mm SS DJ with WG thunderbird bezel for about 15 years as my first (still have it) and all the while hoped and dreamed of a WG DD. Over the years I would acquire other pieces and build my collection but that was the one that always eluded me. I finally got the opportunity to get one a few years ago and found, once the initial excitement wore off, it wasn’t as thrilling as I had imagined. It was still a watch with a similar look but I had some buyers remorse for spending that money on what sort of felt like the same watch. I still have it today but rarely wear it. To keep trying, I got a 36mm platinum DD recently and likewise rarely wear it because now it seems too loud and obnoxious in business meetings with that shine, and you wonder if everyone notices it. Honestly they both get very little wear and most days I just wear my WG Daytona. I prefer the dimensions and the sportiness, not to mention the relative subtlety. Good luck to you on whatever you decide.

A WG DayDate is a good idea if you want to stay under the radar. People won’t notice I assure you.

Nice! The 118239 will be a heavier wear, but not too heavy by any means. I'm sure you'll love it. And very much agree with Muxi above. Random people likely won't know what you have on which is reassuring when wearing such an expensive watch, but people who know watches will know!

To me, I would not get a WG DD as the SS DJ looks so similar (and awesome) at a fraction of the price. Sure the weight is different, and sure the look is different to the trained eye, but in my view if you’re going big, you go big (YG, RG).
That said, I have a TT DJ and would never consider a DD as a replacement, only a supplement. |

Great point. I’ll be selling a sub to get this added and will cause some consolidation. Though my was to consolidate to a WG and a less expensive sports watch.

Actually I did own a YG DD along the way before the WG came along and it was a lot of fun but too loud for me. Traded it for first WG Daytona. Agree the YG is a totally different thing altogether.

I guess I would just say it’s 50/50 whether you will notice a huge difference or miss the money.

I prefer WG and Platinum to colored gold. True, most people will think you are wearing a SS watch, but those who know, will know.

I have been considering this very thing.
Most other watches in my rotation have the day and I am in the habit of looking at my wrist for the day and date. I really would like to have the blue dial WG DD. It seems like the perfect watch, but then there would be no reason to wear my DJ. Let us know how it goes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

a 36mm white gold DayDate with an Oyster bracelet vs the same oyster bracelet Datejust they are so alike...You look superficially at ones wrist and there is no $20.000.. difference, other...than a small window at 12 that says... Monday....and the white gold content |

I’m gravitating towards silver or black dial with the president bracelet. Which do you guys prefer?

Has anyone made the jump from DJ to white gold DD
Yes, I owned both smooth bezel and fluted 41mm DJs, rhodium dial, Jubilee , before leaping up to a white gold DD40. Of course, the luxury and heft of gold is lovely, but in all honesty the best approach is to buy a DJ41 and enjoy it.
You get all you need for a quarter of the price. The true advantage of the DD is the bracelet; that is special. I wouldn’t consider the 36mm versions, the bigger versions wear better on most wrists. They’re not intrusive. But that’s always personal. |

Here we do again with this "under the radar" stuff. I call BS on this entire notion. If you are TRULY looking for under the radar...don't buy a Rolex! ANY Rolex is NOT under the radar..Geez….

To answer the OP's questions. I have a TT DJ 36 and YG DD 36, I love both and have no issues going from one to the other. I don't think I would go for a WG DD.

My first Rolex was a 16200 DJ with blue Roman dial. Later I moved on to a rhodium dialed DJ with fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet. I sold those a number of years ago. I had always wanted a DD, but a YG watch seemed too loud for me.
In the last year I picked up a 18239. I love it. Definitely has more heft than a SS DJ. I actually like the smaller size of a 36 mm to contrast with all my larger sport models and DJ41. I also really like the president bracelet, which you can’t get on the DJ. Going WG was also the right decision for me. I like flying a bit more under the radar with my watches. Did you choose the 5 digit based on price, or was there a reason you liked it more than a 6 digit? |

I found the watch I wanted in terms of it being 36mm, roman dial, color, etc. and was somewhat ambivalent to whether it was a 5-digit or 6-digit. At the same time, the "upgrades" you get with the 6-digit didn't really seem to be worth the extra cost, though I probably would have been OK with paying the extra for a 6-digit if that's what was available. However, I did want the double quick set and wouldn't have gone with an earlier 5-digit (18039).
