Input on Pre-Owned Datejust
Hello Forum,
I just purchased a Datejust from a Chrono24 dealer and I'm looking for some feedback. It just arrived and since it was pre-owned and purchased online, I also took it to a local watchmaker to confirm authenticity. Watch has a 6,5xx,xxx serial (1981) and the bracelet is a 65210H with a W code which puts it at 1995. The end links are 555 with a B underneath. Some of the concerns were as follows. 1-They said the buckle was authentic but not from the original watch. They believed the bracelet was aftermarket and the buckle was transferred to it due to the fit of the bracelet to the case. They say the original bracelet where it meets with the case would sit flush whereas this sits slightly above. It's clearly seen in the photo's in the ad, but I didn't catch this prior to purchasing. The ad states that it's an original Rolex Stainless Steel jubilee bracelet with folding clasp. 2-They also mentioned that it looks like at some point the movement may have had rust on there and went through a complete overhaul. The watch was serviced in march of this year according to the marking in the caseback. 3-They say it's running 20sec per day fast. The ad states that it has recently been professionally inspected, time-tested, and pressure-tested. Are these items to be concerned with, and would you return the watch and keep looking? I have 14 days to return and it has a 1 year warranty. This is my first rolex purchase and tried to do all the research ahead of time. Thanks for any input. Not sure if I can post the link to the watch or not. |

i would return it tbh. i don't like frankenwatches and you also mentioned that it was serviced half a year ago but its already running 20 secs fast? not worth the hassle. there are a lot of great deals in the for sale section on this forum where you can get a great piece with no issues to worry about
if you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for it? |

20sec per day fast is not good. If it’s not magnetised (easy fix) something is wrong. Depending on how much you paid I would send back. If you got a good price and can get it in working order then keep it. It’s a DJ not a Paul Newman Daytona so it’s not an investment. Just make sure you have a watch you like.

It doesn't seem like your too happy with it by the sounds of everything about it and all of the reasons or 'excuses' they gave you for this and that. You should be completely happy with your purchase. Even if you bought it way under the money that will become immaterial down the road. Send it back, there are a lot more out there.

It was $3200, and I've been looking for quite a while and from what I could tell, the price seems to be inline with what I've seen.
Does the price change anyone's opinion? |

This will always bother you. I would return it and buy from a trusted seller on the forum.

Ugh I don’t have enough posts to link the ad and pics won’t upload due to size. I will work on trying to get them uploaded.

OK here we go. I took face views from both the vendor site and chrono24 site. You can see the "fit" issue between the bracelet and the case, I'm not sure if this is actually an issue or not.
I do like the watch, but I wasn't sure if these were items to be worried about. |

Nice looking watch but it’s not what they described. I would send watch back and look for a all original especially if it’s a date just. There are plenty on Chrono 24 . Good luck

Newer dial, open 9 date disc. Questionable bracelet. Complete mish-mash of parts. I’d return. At that money you should find a better piece.

No question about it.
Return the watch today. You are not happy with the piece now and the way you see the questionable parts on the watch will disappoint you more over time. Sent from my SM-N970U using Tapatalk |

Return, return,return, return, return.
Then contact a local grey, or a trusted seller here on TRF and buy a watch that is not from some Johnny Cash song. |

Good for you. I would have returned myself.
I'm actually glad I didn't buy anything on Chrono. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk

Two words: Send back. If you want a preowned Rolex great. Go with a reputable dealer and get a DJ for $3,000.00 USD and up.

Kind of sucks to have to pay for return shipping because had they stated it wasn't running according to spec or may not be running according to spec, I certainly wouldn't have purchased it.
Here is their response to the issue that it's running too fast. We appreciate the feedback and will test it, but note only the new rolex models have the stringent cosc specs. Thanks for the opportunity to serve you. This is what I sent them. BTW, you listed the item as follows. Condition: This item is in excellent condition. It has recently been professionally inspected, time-tested, and pressure-tested. Please review the images provided. I took it to a dealer for authentication and there were issues including that the watch was running 20sec per day fast. I also confirmed this myself over the last two days. I don't know how you could include the statement "time tested" in your listing when it has this issue. |
