Barron & Leeds (Tourneau) in Wailea, Maui

This seems to be a popular destination for folks visiting Maui. I stopped by yesterday.

My recommendation is to skip it. Of the four-sided cabinet display in the middle of the store, at least half of the display shelves were entirely empty. And the ones that did have watches were maybe 30% full. The only watches I saw were DJ’s. Zero sports models. Even zero of anything PM.

It was surprising but I suppose not surprising.

The sales person I talked to said they were getting a little bit fewer watches per allocation, and that essentially all the watches got sold prior to making it to the display case. And that the last two years had been really really good for Rolex.

I have to think that while this may be good for Rolex, it’s terrible for folks that are new to the brand, but are interested in their first watch. To me, if a newbie can’t walk into a store and walk out with a Sub (I know, impossible nowadays), then it’s going to be hard for the brand to grow.

If the last two years have been really good for Rolex, they don't really need newbies' business, do they

I was there in July and things looked a bit better. But that is the low season for Maui. The salesperson said they put all allocations in the display case and that there were a few buyers who literally stopped by every morning at open and bought any available sports models. Who knows.

But there was a 2 for 1 sale at Billibong so picked up 2 pairs of great board shorts!

The one in Kaanapali had a like new BLNR in their pre own case for $18,000 last Sunday. It would be interesting to know if it’s still there.

Whats wrong with DJs? They are great everyday and 1st Rolex for 90% of general population. So if a newbie can't get a Sub for his 1st Rolex in a AD then Rolex is in trouble?

True it seems that you can’t have a Sub from this store without prior purchases

Today I walked into this store and tried to ask for a Rolex - Pepsi. The Sales Associate was kind enough to explain that it might too hard to get one of that model that I’m asking unless I have had prior purchases from that store, although I am a Tourneau Black card holder myself. He continued to explain that I should first establish loyalty purchases before I can be able to purchase that specific Rolex that I’m asking for.
So I began looking around into those Rolex display show cabinets and surprised to see Z-blue Milgauss of which quite hard to find these days. So I ask him straightforward that just in case I would walk away with the Milgauss, would I now be eligible to get my preferred Rolex-Pepsi watch? He then replied that I should first get another $20K watch so I can be served with my preferred model.
I totally get that ‘coz even luxury brand purses like Hermes as with my wife- you would not be able to purchase that popular expensive purses without prior previous loyalty purchases from that same store.

Anyway, that posting dated Oct 2019 described on this forum is totally the same setup just when me and my wife happened to visit today- 11 Feb. 2020.
