5980/1R vs Lange

I know. Totally two different animals but if you could get only one and if they were the same price:

PP 5980/1R vs Lange Datograph Up Down Lumen

Two grail pieces to me.

Can’t get both.

Thoughts and reasoning? Thx!!

This one I would have to go for 5980/1R....

The only Lange Söhne that interested me is the Zeitwerk Striking Time....

Agree here. But I’d go for any wg Zeitwerk. I’d forego all of the other Lange models for the 5980.

I'd get the Dato or a ZW over the 5980/1R... I actually prefer the 5980R and then have the 5711/1R as the bracelet watch.

Might I humbly suggest a Lange triple split instead? :D

It is one thing to see the perlage under the dial, but the date numbers are also visible. Whaaa.

Sorry to shatter conventional wisdom once again, but NONE of the Lange's interest me. I like the story of Lange's resurrection in 1990, but the watches not so much. German design language leaves me cold.

So I will pick Patek every time.

They have to be visible for the lume to be charged by the light, even with a double digit change at midnight the new digits both have lume.

I love Patek as well!

Thanks for the explanation. I don't know, since I am looking at the dial mainly in the daytime, that is when I want the dial to be most attractive. Can I double my vote for the Patek?

Double voting is definitely allowed.

Just to show the smoked sapphire is not always as transparent.

Mind you, when we are talking dials and depth, Patek has it covered.

These watches differ so much from each other.

The 5980/1R is still the super boss watch. Can't see a Datograph from far.

obviously Lumen is gonna be always the better watch, the nautilus will be big until the hype ends. So short term buy go patek , Long term buy go Lange

How are Lange prices ever going to hold up for long term....? They come at a huge discount.
Patek used to be discounted until you can't find them at stores anymore. I think Stern likes this model more.
