Broken bezel.. How bad

Hi, I'm a sat diver used my watch at work no problems.

However yesterday managed break the bezel at a waterpark!

Basically how damaged is this/what damage have I done and how much am I looking at to fix it? Will I have to service it again.... Just had it done 3 months ago

If it’s just the bezel assembly that popped off, it won’t be expensive for them to fix. You’re probably missing a few tiny springs and whatever other tiny parts. No big deal.

How is the crystal secured into the watch?

The whole bezel assembly fell off completely. From your photo it looks like you have the bezel next to the watch, take pictures of it as well, both from top to see if it could be reused and the bottom and maybe somebody who knows the construction of the bezel better than I do will know if and what it is broken/ missing. If it is reusable than it won't be too expensive You might be missing something like click spring and everything else is OK and it will be a quick and cheap fix or you might need whole assembly replaced, but most likely, you still won't need the full service or anything.

Pic

Hi, thanks for the info and pic as requested.

Have taken a photo of the underside of bezel, I have nothing apart from this bezel the watch and a tiny screw I found on floor.

I'm not sure what's missing as not sure what I am meant to be seeing.

Looks like 4 holes would screw into something but no idea.

Any help/advice would be much appreciated before I go and take it in.

Bezel in good condition apart from not being attached to the watch anymore!

I'm sure someone will have a diagram of the assembly. There are parts missing. Small ones. But they would be cheap. The main bezel would not be cheap.

This shouldn't hurt to bad to fix.

Assuming not under warranty period???

Bezels can pop off brother. Take it to a local watchmaker that works on Rolex. They can put it back on for you and will have any small parts that went missing. Rolex would probably want to replace with new bezel and insert and would be much more expensive.

theres no screws under the bezel assembly. Take it to a Rolex service center or certified watchmaker and they should be able to get you sorted in minutes. The bezel just snaps back on, but you need the spring loaded stopper for it to function properly.

That is not an issue, is the bezel insert broken or not? See what goes into those 4 little holes.. these little springs make your insert click into place every time

Thanks for posting the diagram! My 5 series is a little different so had no right answer. But I knew some other parts were missing.

"but you need the spring loaded stopper for it to function properly." Yes.

Just the spring thingies and a new washer gasket to keep the bezel secure, watchmaker with the right tools will pop it back on in less than 5min. Parts + labour should be around $25.

See folks when these are actually used as tools, aluminum wins hands down. Much cheaper to replace And less likely to fail compared to ceramic.

His bezel fell off, it didn't break. Aluminium bezels from the old models can fall off if you hit them as well.

Since you serviced it so recently, I wonder if there’s any chance it would be covered by their warranty. Could it have been put back on incorrectly during service?

If you just serviced it 3 months ago (RSC) should you not have this covered under warranty?

If it was down to bad workmanship then I’d expect it to be covered but the op specifically says he damaged it at the water park. How could you expect damage to be covered under warranty?

Unless he took his watch off and threw it off the water slide, or somehow dropped the watch the bezel should not have fallen off...

Mate it is not bolted shut on there, it is only held by the friction of a hytrel washer gasket in between the bezel and the crystal retainer ring.

Any hard bash can pop the bezel off, which could easily happen with older models as well.

Hopefully you have a watch repair shop close by with a Rolex parts account. If so, less than $100 and a few days at the hospital. If not, a trip to RSC and several more weeks of waiting.

Yes, but unless he has the bezel, it will need to be replaced. So
Aluminum is 1) less likely to fail, and 2) if pops off far cheaper to replace.

That’s what I’m thinking if it went to Rolex for a full service just a few months ago they should be responsible for it because they usually take the whole watch apart for a full service. I’m guessing it wasn’t re assembled properly.
