Icon3 5980/1r

5980/1R is my grail piece.

Think it will last the test of time and since PP is very likely discontinuing it, am considering purchasing it in the secondary.

90k retail. Trading at $160-200k for ones in mint condition.

Any thoughts what price is reasonable to negotiate for given the semi softness in Nautilus pricing? Very painful to pay premiums esp when your goal is not to flip but just to wear.

If PP really is discontinuing this, one might think long term pricing will continue to rise for this piece no?

Appreciate the wisdom.

It's rumours of discontinuation. Problem is, this could just be another "Hulk"-story. Every year it will get discontinued.

I very much doubt it personally, but would like to see it discontinued as I own one. I think the 5980R is the one to go before the 1R

@OP: It trades around 150K on C24. This would mean you can probably pick it up for 145K.

Most greys keep mentioning this or that will be discoed so buy now and you can make alot of dosh, disco fomo, so unlikely for them to offer a soft price when this one is likely to be discoed in favour of the 5990/1r soon.

The rumors that the 5980/1R will be discontinued started earlier in the year, this is why the values have skyrocketed.

Word on the street is that they'll replace it with a 5990/1R (which will be mega!).

Do u think even if the economy goes bad, and secondary pricing for sport Pateks weakens significantly, the 5980/1R, especially if discontinued, could ever go back to retail price in the secondary?

No way right? I wonder, then, what is the lowest price to which this piece will go. 200k seems too high. Maybe 130/140k? Any thoughts?

There's enough people who bought due to FOMO that it'll never go back to retail pricing on secondary.

5990/1R... Will be a brick on top of a brick. That watch would exceed 300 grams, but I'll still love it like my next child.

If it's really discontinued, 140-150k is a steal.

Even at current market price, 140k for new condition is hardly available.

Quick question.

Suppose ask price for this piece is 150k.

That’s how much you would need to buy one.

But what about the price at which you could sell one? Is the spread large?

So if u buy at 150k even if market is 200k but you can only sell at 140k you are still underwater.

Thoughts?

I’m going to open a grey dealer and and a resturant :). Lol

20% spread in the US. Roughly. Grey mkt is a good business. Take the lowest price on Chrono and discount it 20%. And that’s the price which I can sell. The spread is the inventory carrying cost.

If you are capitalized with a revolver... it’s a massive return
