What's the weirdest place you purchased a Rolex?

Maybe it was at a Blackjack table at Atlantic City. An art dealer's "miscellaneous" showcase in Los Angeles. A second-hand jewelry store in Boston, a flea market in Baton Rouge. A garage sale in the suburbs of Minneapolis.

Where's the weirdest place you've purchased a Rolex? What did you acquire? What's your story?

A patient asked if I was interested in a new Daytona he had just received.

A casino in Macau -- from a pawn dealer. A bit of a scary trip to his shop, down some ill traveled roads in a not very nice part of the city and with $10,000 USD in my pocket. After showing me a few fake watches (I had my trusty Rolex back remover, no fakes I know of use a microstella balance)) we made a deal for two Daytonas.

Back in the mid 1980's, a furniture store which also was an authorized Rolex dealer. Long gone now.

In my car on a movie set from a Chicago Cop. It belonged to his father. This little 1952 Precision. She was a wreck had water damage and was on a Spidel twist o flex band. With a little love and lots of cash she was brought back to life. This was back in the late 1980s. She is now 67 years old and running strong.

Trunk of a Cadillac. Twice. It was a well known gray dealer in town and that was his preferred method of delivery. He would come to wherever you were and you would go out and make your deal in the parking lot.

LOL, sounds a lot weirder now than it did at the time. :)

All my Rolex watches were bought from either an AD (Beauchamp Jewelers) or a reputable used watch dealer (ABQ Gold and Silver), except one that I bought from a friend at my bank where I withdrew the funds to pay him.

Thanks for the responses, folks- keep 'em going. Walking around in Macau with $10K cash... wow.

And my fellow Chicagoans did not disappoint.

That's really cool. Which movie set was it? How were you involved in the movie?

Hooters restaurant circa 2004. I had a buddy back then doing some amateur flipping, only SS Daytonas. He had sold me a white dial 116520 two years earlier, I traded him for a new black dial. He then sold the old one for a markup.

Twice, In a limo taxi, delivered by the limo driver, who was a trusted delivery guy for the grey dealer for my first Rolex. Cash handed to him as well in exchange for the watch in the transaction.

My grandfather owned a restaurant decades ago. A regular customer came in one day with two watches and the boxes and offered to sell it to my grandfather. The one watch in question is a TT 1601 34mm with champagne dial*. The other watch is a 26mm (maybe 28mm) TT ladies DJ on an oyster bracelet and champagne dial.
My grandfather purchased both at the counter for straight cash.

*The 1601 has a fake dial. The bracelet from my research and the vintage forum points to being a period correct bracelet. The movement and case is genuine and original. Just seems whoever owned it previously had the dial swapped with a fake and used the real one on something else. Most likely they were stolen watches and the customer wanted to make a quick buck.
