Daytona 16520 and 116520 Buy or Wait?
First thanks for all of the very helpful info on here. Long time lurker that finally made an account.
I am thinking about starting the process of hunting down a Daytona 16520 (#1 pick) or 116520. I wanted to get the forums thoughts attempting to buy one now vs. waiting 12-18 months. I am ok with the current price, and like most, would like it on my wrist as soon as possible. I don't plan to flip or to look at it as an investment. This will be something that will be on my wrist 3-5 days a week. My current concern is that I do not want to kick myself in 18 months knowing that I could have paid 25% - 40% less. Anyone have any outlook on what the price of these watches will do? Thank you. |

i am in the same boat (hunting for one now to give as a gift)...and im probably leaning towards the 25-40% being a potential cost for happiness today
given that this perspective is a luxury not given to most, i feel grateful. With that being said...i personally wouldn't be in the luxury watch market if the potential opportunity cost would kill me. i know that might not be of much help, but i find different perspectives can help. cheers! |

Buy now and buy the best condition you can find....the value will be solid or go up because Rolex will never overproduce the new model....look for a full set also

I'd begin hunting them down. Vintage/discontinued Rolex's tend to hold their value better in down markets. 25-40% reduction sounds very aggressive.

it is completely dependent on what you really want, in my opinion patients is a virtue but if you have the resources and you really want the piece as soon as possible then go for it.

If you had purchased 18 months ago, would you be glad that you bought then, as opposed to waiting for now. :dunno:

Focus on finding the exact example you want; it will far exceed the actual price you will pay especially with the 16520. You don't need to rush to make a decision nor delay if the right watch comes around. Pricing is relative as condition as well as the scarcity of that watch in that condition can dictate a bit of the market. I.e. NOS 16520 can always command a strong price.
I'm on the hunt for the right 16520 as well but I'm limiting myself to specific parameters (dial color, condition, year, etc.) |

116520 is probably the best value right now. It can only go up from here and prices aren’t too bad right now. I’d get a good condition full set and enjoy it.

I’d be patient and wait for a 16520 in nice condition (and ideally a full set). Since you’re planning to wear it, you don’t need to pay the super-premium for NOS, at least...

If the right 16520 pops up & it sounds like you have the funds readily available I would go for one now vs later. These are discontinued obviously & never to be produced again. I was on the fence myself till I found a clean freshly serviced white dial A series from a reputable TRF seller. Have a bit of patience on the right one that will eventually come around. GL on your search!

I’m on the hunt for one also. All I can say from what I see is that there a lot of 16520 variants and prices vary greatly. First thing you need to do is figure which one(s) you want and shop for those specific models until you get a feel for the market. You’ll be surprised at the difference in prices for the same watch.
There’s a ton of them on C24. Go through them see which type fall into your taste and price range and hunt for the best deal. I have not found what I’m looking for yet. Wish a white ceramic would come my way so I can stop looking. Be careful if your looking at Patrizies I would only buy one from trusted seller. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Hello and welcome to TRF It’s great that you have already made the decision on which watch you like and want to wear to enjoy! My honest thoughts on the matter is that noone really knows what could happen tomorrow, much less in the next 18 months. The logical choice would be to get it and enjoy it while you can. Good luck |

I almost never had a regret buying a watch, only selling. I've been down this road. You wait and end up paying more. But hey, it's not all about money. It's about enjoying this the most. Even if the prices come down, you still will have enjoyed the watch for that much longer.
If you can afford it now, you can afford it if the prices comes down (obviously), but it doesn't work the other way around lol. |

Tomorrow it could be double the proce. Or half. Who knows? If you can afford it, buy now. Buy the best model you can afford condition-wise, and get box and papers. As to new versus vintage, dunno, do what you instinct tells you.

I don't think the 16520s are going down anytime soon.

I bought my white 116520 4 years ago , it was 2 years old at the time and the price I paid was actually virtually the new retail price of the time. I knew I would never be able to wait for a new one and the time was right as I had the funds.
They have since climbed a huge amount and if you look at the history of any Daytona generally it has only gone upwards. I would absolutely not be able to afford a 116520 now. A quote from somewhere on this forum ages ago was " The right time to buy a Rolex is as soon as possible and the right time to sell a Rolex is as far in the future as possible "

Look at what I listed a solid 16520 for a couple years ago and get back to me... :)
Just buy what you can afford. I strongly feel there are many more six than five digit examples. |

imho, buy before the christmas shopping season(now) or after... but do not wait until a month before basel. Those are what i've seen to be seasonal fluxes for the last few years.

Daytona 16520 and 116520 Buy or Wait?
I just purchased a white Zenith P serial. It took me 2 two years of hunting.
The price has doubled in this period. Buy sooner rather than later IMO. Many say there are signs of recession coming next year, price would drop during economic crisis, but hey, you only live once. The satisfaction of getting the rare bird you want is second to none. In the end buy what you can afford, with B&P ideally. But also without B&P are good buy. Good luck. Here is mine. Wow! Thank you for all the responses and a great welcome to the community. Everything confirmed my thoughts to go with the 16520, have the funds ready, and wait till my right watch arrives (hopefully sooner rather than later).

I bought a white dial 2013 116520 today full set, mint with some factory stickers still on the case. 18.4k USD, feels a little steep but worth it for a crisp looking unpolished watch. The best time to buy an SS Daytona is always right now!

"This best time to buy an SS Daytona is right now"
Qualifying this to say that it largely applies to discontinued references |

Congrats! Interesting, paid 18.3 USD for a black dial in same condition as yours back in May this year. Seems like prices have hit the ceiling...for now. Enjoy, it's such a great watch

Buy a black dial 116520, full set unpolished. Least downside, beautiful watch almost indistinguishable from the 16520 for 60% of the cost.
