Icon5 116500ln - white/black dial?

To be clear, im not planning to buy this watch. My only goal is to start a friendly discussion about this topic. So what do you guys think ? Black or white on the 116500ln and why?

Sometimes I think this whole forum is an elaborate piece of satire.

I always admired the SS Daytona’s but thought they were kind of plain with no color on the dials. When the new version was introduced, I saw the contrast with the white dial and black bezel and went nuts for it.

I wanted the white dial, and then I wanted the black dial. So I am still confused.

Wanted the more legible one - although this wasn’t the main reason - I just liked the look of the white dial more.
Just my luck this was the more expensive of the two!

I used to want the black but after that i changed my mind in favor of the white. I love the contrast between the bezel and the dial on the white

I like the bezel/dial contrast of the white much more than the black/black.

If I was ever going for one, it would probably be white dial but realistically its unlikely to ever occur as things currently stand.

Although both are beautiful watches, I'd personally choose white dial. Love the Panda look

I wore the non ceramic reference in black for 15 years. Had the chance for black ceramic and traded into it. If I had a choice, I would have probably gotten the white as I like the subdial contrast.
I saw a white one in my office last month, looked nice but I always feel it has a less warm or more stark look in person.
They both photo well.
With forums you will always find the answer "use the search" and at some point almost every question and answer has arisen multiple times. But if you are really curious as far as preferences, there was a Poll last week on which Daytona. If I recall the white edfed out the black

The white dial is the PN 6239 of today. Aesthetically, the best ever Rolex in my opinion.

white for a collection, black for a one and only.

Black is more versatile IMO. Both sporty but white is very sporty and doesn't work quite as well as black in dressier situations.

Also think white is a little more fun, generally speaking, but both are incredible.

I respectfully disagree. The white 116500 isn't even a true panda. The closest, in appearance anyway, would be the 116519 white gold with "panda" dial.

As for the OP's question, I'll write what I write every time this question gets asked .... I never get tired of these threads:

White is best in photos, black is best in person. The white dial is too snow/toothpaste white. Reminds me of a TAG. Rolex should have put a hint of silver in there like the old 6263/5s. Black is simply more classic and iconic, IMHO, and I've owned both .... twice, but now only have the 116519.

The white must have been nice enough to re-buy then. It’s a matter of taste. I find the black reminds me too much of a Speedmaster, so it’s funny to hear two sides. I’d take the Autavia panda over a Speedmaster every day of the week though.

Black.

I think in pictures the white dial looks great. And I think it is popular because it's somewhat of a panda dial which is very popular now. And IMO the older 116520 never had a very attractive white dial. The older 116520 looked much better in black. Therefore the new white dial 116500 is fresh and new.

Having said that, I have seen and tried on both the 116500 black and white dials in person. And IMO the black is definitely nicer. It pops more and looks more elegant. The light reflect off it more.
