Jump to TT, cheapest with the SkyDweller
Why is it (or why do you think) that the jump from SS to TT in most every Rolex model line is more expensive in comparison than the same jump in the SkyDweller line?
These are Spain prices in Euros: SS YM-II ... 17250 TT YM-II ... 23300 (+6050) SS Sub Date in black ... 7850 TT Sub Date in black ... 12450 (+4600) SS GMT BLNR ... 8550 TT GMT CHNR ... 13000 (+4450) SS SeaDweller ... 10450 TT SeaDweller ... 14850 (+4400) SS Daytona ... 11400 TT Daytona ... 15600 (+4200) SS Datejust Fluted Jubilee ... 8750 TT Datejust Fluted Jubilee ... 11750 (+3000) SS SkyD ... 13250 TT SkyD ... 15750 (+2500) |

Probably due to the fact that the SS SkyDweller comes as standard with an 18ct white gold bezel.

The case of the 'SS' Skydweller is made from an alloy of white gold and 904 stainless steel called Rolesor, so it's not really a 'SS' model. So the extra you pay for the TT is pretty much just for the gold PCLs on the bracelet.

That is not factually accurate. The case is 904 stainless steel and the winding crown and bezel are 18ct white gold. It is that combination that Rolex call Rolesor rather than it being an alloy of the two. Generally speaking any TT is Rolesor whereby the bezel, winding crown and the PCLs become 18ct gold. The SS SkyDweller is really a white Rolesor version but with stainless steel PCLs and the TT (yellow Rolesor version) simply changes the winding crown and bezel from white to yellow gold with the main cost difference being attributed to the PCLs which are upgraded from stainless steel to 18ct yellow gold.

The SkyD and datejust (as you’ve described it) both have a white gold bezel so the added cost is just for the bracelet really - makes sense that this would be lower overall for these two. Better DJ comparison is the SS smooth bezel to TT. By gold content, I would suspect it goes SkyD > DJ41 = YM1 = Daytona > YM2 > SD > sub/GMT.
I think anything with a ceramic bezel will have less gold total since the ceramic insert occupies most of the space of the bezel, and the gold is just trim to hold it in place. |

I think it's a classic case of supply and demand. The SkyDweller is not a popular model ... certainly not as popular as the others on the list. Accordingly, it makes sense that the upcharge for TT would be less than on other, more in demand models.

Because a lot of the added value is in the annual calendar movement rather than the metal option.

Makes the TT YM2 look like a terrible value! |
