Rolex sub v Tudor sub values
Looking at values, it almost seems Tudor snowflakes are becoming more valuable than Rolex subs of the same period?
There is a 1974 Rolex sub on eBay at £9k and was one at that price sold a month or two back. Tudor subs seem to be in the same bracket now. Thoughts...... Will Tudor prices overtake Rolex? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I saw a 1970 Tudor Snowflake go for $17,500 USD at the Phillips auction.

I think you are right.
I love the blue dial 79090, but it's like $9k-$12k. Seems pricey, but it is gorgeous. |

I think only snowflakes have the possibility of having a higher value than Rolex subs of the same era. Purely because of the relative quantity of pieces available. I don't see any of the other Tudor models overtaking their Rolex equivalent ever.

If you want a Tudor sub just get one as a tinker toy for your collection. You can find a blue dial/bezel version (head only) for under 5k; put put it on a NATO and have fun. And if you decide it's not for you then you can flick it for what you bought it for. I used to own a blue 79090 and a black 94010. They are nice watches but I'd rather wear my BLNR so they had to go. If I ever get another Tudor Sub it will be a blue 79190. |

supposedly they used to go for only a few hundred back then. but by the time I started to hunt for one, they were around $4k and this was just a run of the mill 79090 black. There are certain tudor subs that will go for more than regular 16610 just due to the sheer number differences definitely.

I can see nice Tudor snowflakes overtaking Subs of the same era. There are not many out there and good ones are really getting difficult to find. Most of the ones I see have dial issues and have been messed with.

Agreed. I don't have any hard numbers, but just from checking vintage sales for years they're significantly more rare than a 1680 and good ones are only a fraction of those. Plus blue, and people love blue. |

Vintage Tudor prices have hugely risen (the whole vintage watch sector has gone up). I think key pieces will always command high prices like big blocks and some of the funkier 70's chrono's, snowflakes, mil subs, the more usual stuff has probably gone up but I can't imagine it going higher than a similar rolex piece.
Having said that there is still a lot of 90's tudor that is cheap for a reason. |

I don't consider Tudors "tinker toys."

As always it’s going to come down to the particular reference you’re talking about not necessarily Rolex or Tudor. Having said that, overall your average Rolex will always have a higher value than your average Tudor.
