For all you Scotch fans- can anyone help me source this?

Hello folks. I'm only recently discovering the General Topics sub-forum and am happy to see how many people here like whisky/whiskey.

I wonder if anyone here can point me in the direction of a particular bottle? I've checked the usual internet websites and found no luck.

It's a Balvenie 15 year old scotch... but aged in a single bourbon cask, not the Sherry cask. Legend has it that it was one of Balvenie's very finest scotches in recent history. Never got the opportunity to try one, and I'd love to buy a bottle or two.

Thanks in advance!

This is the Bourbon cask but is discontinued, have you thought of getting in touch with the distillery direct.

I think you will be lucky to get one tbh, here's a review though.

It doesn’t sound like there are many left. Go for two bottles. Drink one and stash the other for resale in 5-10 years and you may recoup all the money.

It says "Sherry cask" I thought you wanted the Bourbon cask?

Hah, reselling whisky isn't my thing, but I might have to opt for this.

I haven’t seen one in a while, years.
Good luck.

Thanks. At this point I'm hoping someone's stashed a bottle somewhere and they wouldn't mind selling it.

That's a stock/reused description, unfortunately, and part of the frustration in searching for the right bottle- vendors don't update their descriptions.

When I reached out via customer service, they confirmed the bottle was not the Sherry cask one.

Also, taken directly from the Balvenie website: https://us.thebalvenie.com/our-whisk...gle-barrel-15/

Nooo you must :)

I’m genuinely curious if it really is as good as it’s supposed to be.

I never really liked mine, very sharp and quite strong alcohol taste. I bought it in 2002 and still have some left.

Thanks - good to know. I very nearly ordered one yesterday for my father. They are two characteristics he wouldn’t like in the taste

Perfect for cooking then, soups and sauces sometimes need a splash!

I’m sitting on a bottle of Johnnie Walker Gold for a special occasion, or where I might be able to make someone’s day.

Up For Grabs

Just Chipping with my 2 penny's worth, Ive a bottle of Lagavulin 16 year old single malt.... that Ive had unopened for 20 years, I am looking to move it on as, erhump.... Errrmm I don't drink whiskey !?!?!?!?!

The Islay representative in the 'Classic Malts' series is a deep, dry and exceptionally peaty bruiser. Probably the most pungent of all Islay malts, Lagavulin is not for the faint-hearted but inspires fanatical devotion in its many followers.

I'm sure the Sherry cask version is better. Probably varies a lot from year to year, but honestly the reason why I have about 1/3 bottle left is that I never liked it.

A bit of moonshine over it.

A faulty bottle, perhaps? I think every review I've read claimed the exact opposite. That said, I imagine any bottle has that risk.

How could it be faulty? Then the whole cask would be. Scotch isn't like a bottle of wine.

There are plenty of ways a bottle can go bad after the whisky's been bottled, many of them not even the fault of the purchaser.

Alas, I don't know your bottle's specific situation. I hope (if I get one) that I will enjoy it, and would be happy to share feedback.
