Did you regret it ??
I am considering flipping the first Rolex I ever got (116613LB) for a 116618LB
For those of you who flipped or sold their very first, did you regret it? Is this something I definitely should not do ? What are your thoughts |

I considered it for a long time, then finally sold it in the fall, after a decade-plus with me. In a vacuum, I would love to have kept it, but I was not wearing it and it went to a good home. I’m satisfied with that.
If there’s something else you’d like more, I wouldn’t hesitate. I wish I’d done it sooner. |

I have absolutely no sentimental attachment to my first Rolex, a Sub, that is long gone.
Not even for a millisecond of thought. Unless it was gifted to you by a relative, these are material objects that very few get to whine about on the internet |

My first is GMT my wife got me for my 40th bday. And it’s staying. Didn’t consider flipping it, might be a great gift for my son’s graduation when we get there. He was eying it when I got my new watch this Christmas.
But ultimately your call. Depends if you love it or want to move on to other piece. |

I traded my 18 year old 16613LB towards a new BLNR in 2015. Never looked back. Tastes change.

It is quite difficult to purchase our first Rolex , a real mile marker on the highway of life. In this case, the TT bluesy is quite a first piece. I don't know if the feelings of regret would hit me. For me regret means I can't get a do over or a second chance at this moment or experience. If you sell and get sellers remorse, don't worry, the reference is out there and can be recovered. You can go back and do it over. So I say sell it and get that 116618.

No, no regrets. Loved my TT Sub for 18 years and traded it for a Bluesy which I still have.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I traded my 18 year old 16613LB towards a new BLNR in 2015. Never looked back. Tastes change. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I wanted 16613LB (&166613LB) for *YEARS*! When I finally bought one, I loved it dearly. For about a week! Traded it in for a Datejust41 Wimbledon and I like it more everyday. I've been wearing Rolex for 30 years and although I haven't owned too many, however I've worn/owned enough to be very surprised I couldn't bond with the 166613lb. BTW, I kept each reference for a minimum of 3-4 years so I was pretty sure I knew what I liked. I've never reversed myself so radically before so yes indeed: Tastes *do* change. Would you still wear your 116613LB if you also had a 116618LB?
If the answer is no, then sell it and get the one you really want. |
Personally I would regret it even though I have not worn it in probably 5 years (DJ TT white face purchased 1989). It’s the first Rolex I owned and would be the last one I would sell if I fell upon hard times.
I traded my 116613LB for a 116610LN plus cash my way and I am glad I did. I have four watches: an old seiko that I use when painting, an Audi gmt watch for the gym, my dad’s old watch and the Rolex Sub date for the rest of the time.
If you have no use for something, then sell it unless you wish to gift it to someone. Easy!
Got rid of a few years back . Shouldn’t have done it . I don’t think I will ever trade / sell in order to add to the collection again .
My watches are toys. They hold no value to me other than jewelry.
I sell once I no longer wear. |
I would never let my 16710 go (until I pass it on to my son) but in your case, I would 100% trade a two-tone for a full PM, regardless of first Rolex or not.
I sold mine, a black sub for eventually a Blue YG Subc so I would advise you to go for it, esp upgrading from a TT to the PM.
For those who have done it, how much can I expect to pay for the upgrade?
Based on my research ~12k for the trade plus another 15-16k cash for the 116618LB. Is this reasonable? Thanks |
