Amazing Lesson

Just randomly had lunch with a friend of a friend, really nice guy. First thing I noticed was his watch, and what a watch!

Within seconds, it was in my hands, and I had instant watch envy!! A 1974 Nautilus, wow! What didn’t help, is that 1974 is my birth year!!

But here’s the lesson, it had clearly been worn as a watch should be worn. And it was all the more cool as a result! So for anyone worries about scratches and a bit of rounding of the edges, chill out!! In 40 years time you’re going to meet people with brand new, and better watches, that will be full of envy when they see your well worn timepiece!

Cool story. Just adds more fuel to the fire (for your 5711).

My friends 3700 that he purchased in October 1977 on the right. For years he didn’t eve know like to wear a watch, so he would carry it in his jacket pocket with keys, coins etc.

And it is 100% cooler than mine on the left.

I have to admit, mine doesn’t look as clean anymore. But I wore it whatever I did - everyday - for close to 2 years now

It took him five minutes to design this piece of steel. No way they spent 2 years indroducing it.

Niiice! Yes, the pre-2000 Pateks, and his 1974 for example, is a great era for Pateks. If i was ever to bother with Pateks again, it would be vintage for sure plus have a talented non-Patek watchmaker service it.

A PP service on a vintage 3700 is not too bad price wise actually

I thought that was the Royal Oak? Either way, it was a gift from someone very influential in Pateks history. Really nice guy, and the watch is the coolest I’ve ever seen!

Let me then remind our friends here whose 5711/1p have been stamped wrongly. It should be "1974-42-2016" instead of "1976-40-2016".

Maybe it was a prototype? Given his very specific link into Patek, it’s possible. Will find out and revert back.

Interesting story. I have to admit it seems far more likely he misquoted the year by mistake but you never know.
