Can’t decide - YM Rhodium vs No date SUB
I’m considering a no date black sub or the yacht master rhodium dial
Pros for the YM dressier which I wear suits for work. Love the polish and all silver bezel and blue accents Bi directional bezel Gorgeous watch Cons for the YM The sunburst can hamper readability No glide lock Pros for the SUB Love the no date clean face The sub has the glide lock which I love Better readability and contrast Classic classic classic Cons for the SUB Not crazy about the all black bezel. I wear a lot of brown and blue Very popular kind of boring |

For me, I'd pick the sub. But for you, I think you should absolutely get the YM.
Wouldn't worry about sunburst readability, never been an issue. You'll love how it picks up the light in bright sunlight. Worth it. |

The yachtmaster looks at home in pretty much any attire. I think it is a absolute stunning watch!

That YM is gorgeous. The Sub is classic and iconic but boring.

If you’re a one watch guy, then Sub.
If you have a rotation then it depends on what else is in the collection.

Picked up my 126622 YM40 Rhodium about 3 weeks ago. What I can say is that pictures do this watch zero justice. I posted some pics on TRF when I got it and I noticed none of the pictures capture the beauty you see in real life.

YM for me. I have both easy link and glidelock, and both work just fine. And while the glidelock is more adjustable, the easy link has a smaller, more comfortable clasp.

For those picking the sub - why? Is it just the look or what?
The water depth means nothing to me, both functionally the same thenYM bindirectional is probably a little more useful. I’m more concerned with looks and finding one watch tondo it all. |

The Sub is timeless; its look will never go out of fashion as long as people wear watches; it won’t clash with any attire; the BCL’s and ceramic bezel makes it (very marginally) more suitable as a daily driver. You summed it up in one word (well, one word, three times).
I say that despite the fact I like the YM and because I have a rotation of watches and I’ve got “black dial diver” covered, if I were given this choice I might actually pick the YM. But for one and done, 114060 wins.

I pick the Sub purely for aesthetic reasons. I like the ceramic bezel look more than the platinum bezel. Date is a nice feature, but it’s absence makes the dial seem more harmonious. If f you feel the opposite, and can spare the extra cash a YM costs, the YM might be an easier piece to acquire quickly.

The Sub is just a must have, and the movement in it is just classic. I already have a Sub Date, but if I didn’t I’d want one before they change the movement.

I have a hang up with the black bezel. It’s beautiful face and dial but the bezel insert bothers me a little I wish it were all silver. Also I wear a lot of navy and blue suits and brown shoes and sometimes I feel like the black clashes with brown and blue. I know it’s not a valid concern just a mental Hangup I have. I cannot wear a black banded watch with brown shoes. Just saying. The regret would be if I buy the sub, would the YM be more versatile and classier and nicer with suits etc since that’s what I wear most.
The hang up with the YM is, the sunburst may bother me a little if it’s not legible and readable, although gorgeous would I regret not having the simplicity of the sub. The regret if I buy the YM is that, it’s not as versatile as the sub. I wonder if I would wish I just got the sub. |

You should buy what appeals to you more.
For the Submariner — there is a lot of beauty in its simplicity. Outside of watch forum nuance, the design is substantially unchanged for 70 years... it is like the tuxedo of watches. The black Cerachrom is just so so rich and deep, it was truly meant for the Submariner. If you do not like the black Cerachrom bezel — arguably the best part of the modern Submariner — then the Submariner may not be the watch for you. You might also consider the Explorer if you like simplicity but not the Sub’s Cerachrom bezel. The YM is a very beautiful watch, and while the Sub is classic, it is contemporary — the YM design moves and changes, by Rolex standards, much more frequently with the times. Good luck! |

Different look and feel. I love mine YM and think it's perfect. Been my daily wear and like you, I wear suits. It's been a good match for any color. It has a more elegant feel to it. The sub is superb but more of a dress down for me.
