Daytona C White

Hi! This is my first post here.
I bought a 116610LN about two years ago at an AD . After that l went to visit once a month. So january last year l asked about the Daytona C white. They told me that it was a very Difficult watch to to find, yeah l fully understand it’s for VIP clients, but they placed me on “waiting list”. Anyway last december l went there to buy some jewelry and they showed me a black daytona, wich was already sold, but they told me that they would get me one in 2020.
The story brings us to today, l went there to service a 1665 and l asked about the daytona again, the answer was that there were none available and that if l wanted one l had to wait about 5 years.
What do l do? I bought jewelry there to “buy” my way into a Daytona...

Daytona C White

Hate to say it but this is the problem with buying your way into the piece, there is really no guarantee behind getting the watch outside of the ADs “word”. I would ask to speak with the manager and explain the background if you haven’t already. If you’ve already done that, I’m afraid there isn’t much leverage you have. Hopefully you didn’t dump a whole lot of money into the jewelry.

Look its a simple fact watches like the Daytona are not always kept for what you put VIP clients. On the grey market there are hundreds possible a thousand for sale at crazy prices. Today watches like the Daytona because many are willing to pay crazy prices afraid thats where most will end up on the grey market. Thus preventing many buyers who really want to own and wear these watches, now thanks mainly to internet hype Rolex watches are little more than £££££$$$$ now.

I think this and other forums present a rather skewed view of the world. I work, and have worked with, many people who wear a Rolex, and the massive majority are largely unaware of the hype. For most people, a Rolex is a chunky purchase and it is likely to have been made without knowing anything about watches. And for this reason, most won’t look at flipping their Rolex or worrying about whether they can get the next hot thing, they will just enjoy what they have. This forum, with members with a genuine interest and personal collections, is not a true representation of the masses, so generalising a population by saying they are little more that £££££$$$$$ is unfair.

Before i found this forum, I knew very little about watches and had grown up believing that Rolex was the most expensive and very best watch you could buy. I was brought up poor and Rolex was hugely aspirational.

I bought my son a Speedmaster Reduced for his 18th and a Tudor Black Bay 58 for his 21st. He considers Rolex to be aspirational (as I used to) which is why despite my wife encouraging me to, I didn’t buy him a Rolex for his 21st. When he’s earned it, he can buy his own.

Worth remembering, that Rolex has always been a luxury item, and anyone who thinks otherwise has never had to buy their clothes at jumble sales or ration electricity until pay day! Things may have got a little lost along the way and headed in a direction that some don’t like, but some folk would do well to remember, that the basics haven’t really changed.

As for the OP - you may have bought some jewellery, but others will have bought more. There are watches that I want and will try to get, but in reality it is unlikely I will be able to make a couple of them happen, so I will move on. Don’t sweat over one watch, if that’s a major worry or complaint in your life, things are going pretty good

There’s only one thing you can do, and it’s remain very polite and keep asking for the watch. Maybe they’ll decide to give you one. Waiting timeframe seems to be a moving target anyway.

Your purchase of jewelry with the hope of a Daytona is a fools move if you think it actually entitles you to anything. If you actually wanted the jewelry it’s all good, but thinking it somehow entitles you to a Daytona is simply not a correct assumption.

I am a true Rolex fan with several in my collection and lucky to be one of those with a good relationship with an AD. Reading such posts I often contemplate if these people are aware of what else is out there and not chasing the hype of have to have pieces. I recently picked up a Chopard for one reason, it spoke to me when I first saw it. JLC did it to me last year. Then all of a sudden a Rolex was offered to me. I am waiting for two more Rolex this year , if they appear great. If no, there is a Breguet I have a liking to and will enjoy if I so decide. In short you don't always get what you want when you want unless you want to deal with the grey market for those popular pieces and pay for the availability of having it now.

As already stated - fine a new AD or go grey.

The fact of the matter is - there is SO much hype over the Daytona (and several other references) that VIPs are having to wait for them as well. It is just where the market is. There is not enough supple to meet any of the demand (quickly).

find AD that can get it for you within a year, if you are not able to find that then buy grey.

Word is cheap, if the indication of buying jewellery would result in the allocation of a Daytona I would've made the AD put that in writing before completing the purchase.

They gave you the typical salesmen pitch... over-promise, under-deliver.

One watch over two years plus some jewelry will not make the grade unfortunately.

If your AD is telling you 5 years. It means you're not getting one for the foreseeable future from that particular AD.

Go with another AD or buy grey

Find another AD. Clearly this AD cannot keep his promises. There are still good ADs out there but unfortunately not much. Lucky I found one. Good luck OP!

Sounds like you bet on the wrong horse.

Or just didn't spend as much on the jewelry as they thought you would.

Find another AD.

I was able to get mine bc I had a family member who worked there. Still had to wait a year, but love the watch!

However you decide to get one you won't regret it.

Nothing is your’s until it is your’s. You could spend €10k every week with them and they wouldn’t owe you anything.

If waiting isn’t to your liking, go grey.
