New guy question.....Secondary market......

Is it the future "where to shop"?

With little (hot models) to choose from at Authorized dealers, in addition to any downshift in the economy, I'm betting so! Reputation, will be more important in our future than in any previous times!

Please discuss?

Reputation?

As in your reputation for wearing a hot watch?

Or the reputation of the seller?

I think you used the wrong "R" word. You mean relationship right?

Present? Without an AD relationship, yes.

Future? No one can answer that.

Let me amend that, without an AD relationship or a lot of work or luck.

Don’t worry about it!

Yeah the sellers reputation is very important.

Relationships can also help

I guess what I'm trying to say is that, it seems so much easier to just go secondary for any high demand piece. With a higher premium in most cases of course.

I'm also reading that now there is a huge popularity or boom with Rolexes (as my example), many, predict a down turn. Which may result in more watches available in secondary sources.

Leading to the secondary marketers reputation statement, that they must equal those of Authorized Dealers.

Looks to me like that's where to shop, in the future?

Does that make any sense?

A wonderfully confusing thread in which seller reputation to certainly models at store not important present but limited future relationship less new buyer now AD. Agree!

Remember that many people here aren't native English speakers. We kind of figured out what he meant.

Demand is the sole arbiter of how hard a watch is to buy. Even if the economy tanks, Rolex makes about 800,000 new watches a year, give or take. While there will always be pre owned in the market, if you are paying cash for a Rolex, you probably have at least a few other watches and you either don't sell them, or sell them when you get another watch because you don't wear it or grew tired of it.

Even in an economic downturn there are millions of people that are generally unaffected financially or that actually thrive more in recessions. There will still be plenty of buyers. Maybe prices moderate on secondary markets, maybe not.

True, but the OP lists his location as "USA" so one would assume that English is his first language.

But we all know what happens when you assume.

Depends on where you live, but DavidSW is the secondary dealer many here use. If in southern cali, use justrolexes OR OCrolexguy. I have dealt with both and they are superb. You can PM any of these to get a price.
