Passed on BLNR

I purchased an 114060 (first purchase over $500) in Dec thinking it would be my only chance on a sub or gmt. Go figure I got a call two days ago for the BLNR. I was already out with my family so we drove there and discussed how much more we both liked the BLRO.

I called two greys enroute thinking; I could wear it for a week then sell it if i don't love it. Bob's said sorry not taking them. Another said let me check if we are accepting those right now, then offered $12,500

Got to the AD and I discovered I loved everything about it. The jubilee was fantastic. GMT function seems flawless. Definitely would have made the purchase had I not bought the sub. I ended up deciding to hold off for what I really wanted. If a nobody (me) can get calls for two ss sports in two months and greys are getting stuck with product then maybe things are looking up.

Hopefully no one judges me for calling greys. I do not have enough money to buy 20k in watches in two months. But don't need money bad enough to flip watches as a side hustle.

AD texted me an hour later it was sold and he would keep me in mind.

I believe you did the right thing. If you’d taken and flipped the batgirl, you’d risk not getting your BLRO.

Good luck

No one has the right to judge you but there will be a few. I wouldn’t worry about it. It’s just internet tough guy stuff they wouldn’t dare say to your face. Great decision holding off on something you don’t really want.

You're pretty lucky. AD told me I have to spend upwards of $50k to be considered for a BLNR. But I live in the Los Angeles/Ventura region and I guess there is a lot of demand here.

Rolex is producing more models than previous, that’s why some greys aren’t taking them....it is slowly going back to normal

Very interesting story. Hopefully the AD respects your decision and you will get the call for the BLRO in time. It sounds like they didn’t have any trouble moving the BLNR though!

Hard to believe that Bob's would not make an offer.

yes that is pretty crazy considering Bob's is one of the biggest grey dealers out there. Perhaps there is hope on the horizon

This is one of the main reasons I started the thread. Most people probably don't care that I am not rich.

This is probably somewhat of a coincidence but luxury stocks are also taking quite a big hit these last few days. Fears about the Corona virus in China plus worrying signs regarding the Chinese economy.

So, the other gray actually offered you $12.5K? That's pretty high offer these days, since these are selling new for around $13K with tendency of further decrease in value.

$12.5k offer is not bad. But about right - other grays are offering low 11s already. Add 10% margin for a new BLNR on Jubilee equals $13,750 sale to end customer from a gray is ok.

Not only BOBs - heaps of other grays are not buying ANY of the hot models.

Wow. I'm amazed they wouldn't make an offer, even if it were stupidly small but above retail.

The fact you passed on a hot watch will probably buy you some will from the AD when another sports model comes in as it shows you're not buying to flip. Good move.

Good for you! I'm a big fan at only buying what sings to you. Good luck on getting the BLRO. I also prefer it to the BLNR but they are both incredible.

To each his own, alright. But even if I didn't have the means to keep the both watches, I would get my hands on that BLNR no matter what and just unload the 114060 down the road for the same amount I paid for it and keep the BLNR forever.

Very interesting story to say the least. I have noticed a influx of Batman's for sale locally selling at the lowest I've seen them in a while.

My AD told me for every 5 S/S GMTs they get in 4 are Batman's and 1 is a Pepsi.

I agree the AD more than likely will move to another client wanting a GMT Master if OP now has a BLNR. Also, did right as a collection imo. No need to pick up a watch you don’t want just in an effort to make a profit. Reminds me of 90’s day traders that philosophy.

When you think about it. There are only 2 SS GMT models.

Every single day the amount of these "rare" SS watches are coming onto the market. As each day passes more and more are released into the market.

These arent getting rarer or more scarce. They are getting more common and available!!!!! This goes for all SS pieces not only the GMT

The AD is playing favourites with you because of the USMC angle but in holding out for the BLRO you might have pushed it.

Are you going to make grey dealer calls for that one if it comes along? The fact that you are shopping watches you don't yet have and entertaining buying 20k worth of them, even though you say you can't afford it, may indicate the flipper game has, in fact, peaked your interest.

I think you hit the nail on the head here. These references aren’t done production, they will in all likelihood be produced for another 7-10 years. There will be plenty of examples in the coming years as more come to market. The update pace probably won’t be as crazy in the coming years either across the lines, which also means each reference will have some additional time on the market and more examples placed. It’s rare to see demand spike for any individual reference mid life-cycle all things else equal.

I totally agree. I'm 5 years time there will be 4 times as many BLRO and BLNRs out in the wild.

Take the flippers out of the game and I do think you will see these S/S models back in the AD cases.

Yeah I think my sob story has been very helpful but it ends come summer and then my leg up on the flipper industry will be shot. Yeah, holding out for the BLRO will probably result in no GMT for a good long time. Such is life.
