Gas BBQ Grills

Hi guys,

I've started to toy with the idea of buying myself a gas grill for outdoor cooking.
So far I'm thinking a Weber Genesis II.

Does anybody have any recommendations or thoughts or the name of other brands I should be considering for my research.

Also, I've been hearing wonderful things about Grill Grates.
Has anybody tried these?

Cheers

Really it depends on price range, what kinds of fuel (NG or LPG) you plan on using and is it built in or not.

In Florida we typically have all of them. Gas, charcoal and wood.

Gas BBQ Grills

All my grilling friends told me to not be cheap (brand-wise) when buying a grill. I listened and my cheaper Weber from 2011 is still grilling like new. Went with gas since I didn’t Spirit 310 from 2011. At least on newer models, the controls have been moved to the front.

Be sure to get a model with front cabinets to hide the tank and misc. stuff.

I went with a propane tank model since natural gas didn’t make sense for me as I moved the grill around twice before settling on a permanent location on the rear deck.

Also, didn’t want to deal with Charcoal.

Here is a snapshot of unfiltered recent consumer report rankings to use as a guide. I have an account with them.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm just beginning to research but already think I've decided on a Weber based on everything I've read so far.

Another vote for Weber. I’ve had mine for around ten years or so, and it is pretty much perfect. I keep it covered and it sits outside all year even in the Chicago winters. When we moved we hooked it up to a gas line.... Unlimited power!!!

Been using my Weber Genesis for about 6 years now and still looks and grilling like new. When it finally gives out I will grab another Weber for sure.

Which do people prefer over the Porcelain-Enamled cast iron grates or the stainless steel rod grates?
Are the SS Rod grates worth the upgrade?

And thanks again for the replies above guys.

I have been using a Weber Genesis for 14 years and it has lots left. I replaced the burners and igniter last year and it's just like new.

I am not sure if it is still the case, but the big box stores like Home Depot sold Webers cheaper than the specialty store where I bought mine, but for good reason. Apparently Weber issued special models with inferior grills and who knows whatever else. Kind of like Black Friday TV's. Mine has solid 3/8 stainless grills which are awesome.

Enjoy!

I have two Genesis grills. Best Gas grill I have ever had but I vastly prefer my Big Green Egg charcoal kamado grill and so does everyone I cook for.

I went with the stainless upgrade, super easy to clean and have had no problems at all. I always oil the grate with a paper towel dipped in vegetable oil before grilling.

I have a Weber and use Grill Grates. I'm very happy with both. This is my second Weber. The other one lasted over a decade.
The Grill Grates are good. My only complaint with the is that it's hard to see that the burners are on if grilling during daylight.

The only thing to consider is temperature and convenience and what you want to cook.

I’ve stuck with propane because I like a faster high heat and to be able to move my grille around.

I’ve got a Weber Genesis gas grill in addition to my Traeger ironwood 650. Considering getting the grill grates but not sure which grill to get them for first. Does anybody have any thoughts?

Weber Genesis. I bought my first one in 2000 and it’s still going strong at my cabin. Bought the second one in 2011 for my new house and it’s like new.

As far as gas goes you really won’t go wrong with Weber, just be sure to pop for stainless grates and, if you can swing it, look at a Summit, for its anti-flair up design.

I bought my Weber in 2005 and it still runs and looks new. I replaced the burners two years ago and that's it. It also stays in my garage all year long so I can use it in the winter.

I have the Weber Genesis II and love it. I’m not an grilling expert but does everything I need it to do. One thing to consider is connecting to natural gas. I installed a gas line from the house and it has been a game changer for me. No more worrying if the propane will run out in the middle of my grilling session. And no more lugging around propane tanks.

Love my webber Q. I leave it outside all winter long, with snow, ice, rain and no cover and it still works perfect.

I may treat my Weber Genesis to a overhaul before we get into serious grilling season. Mine is a 3 burner with a side burner. What did that involve, from you guys who’ve done it? Mine works great, and the grate’s themselves are fine (I believe they are stainless) but the hoods over the burners are looking pretty rusty and my starter isn’t firing off as strongly as it did when new.

I bought my Weber Genisis about 12 years ago and it's still going strong.
