Tudor submariners - the last chance?

Evening folks,

Hope you're good. I've been doing a bit of research on Tudor submariners recently. I love vintage Rolex pieces but after a few purchases, am not looking to spend loads on either a new or vintage Rolex sub right now.

That got me thinking: what alternative Tudor options are out there that are still relatively reasonably prices? And so I stumbled across the 79090 and 79190. Both are classics, and I think at the lower price end compared to other similar vintage pieces out there. But both are great bang for the buck.

The development of both over time is also interesting to note. You can see how Tudor slowly developed the first iteration into the latter as time went on. A picture of how gorgeous this watch is below from Bulang and Sons. If you fancy a read and a few more pics, take a peek here.

Cheers,
Daniel

I cringe when I think of how cheap those were about 15-20 years ago. SS sports fever has lifted prices of these waaaaay up. Relatively speaking, though, they are "cheap" as compared to Rolex Subs, and I'm sure they will continue to appreciate.

Thx for sharing.

Definitely some nice examples out there with great patina. Black dial looks very vintage without the wg indices.

Also, Rolex should bring back the mini-sub for the ladies and people who prefer smaller sports watch

Oh these were cheaper back in the day , but just like most things were .With hindsight I would have bought a dozen Daytonas , red submariners , GMTs etc . But I’m happy to have bought my 89 79090 for less than a grand , when not many people gave them a second look .

I've also looked at Tudor, love yours but do not favor the hands on the new models.

I agree! The value is still there on these. The last thing I need is another dive watch, but I am tempted to pick one up. The snowflakes are getting up there in price these days.

Exactly! The transitional 16800 bears clear resemblance to the 79090 - matt dial, creamy lume plots, stainless steel case, and mercedes hands. Mmmm...

It certainly does , & here’s a picture side by side for comparison.

I am big Tudor fan and I find the Tudor sub is more interesting in term of dial design especially the vintage one. The existence of vintage Tudor blue dial sub is great option compare to black Rolex sub.
