INDUSTRY NEWS: Basel '09
Hopefully more to come. These are models schedule to be released by Omega, the world's timekeeper.
mage borrowed from TZ mod Damon who got the image from "an industry insider" This is a remake of a 1970 model nicknamed the PloProf (Plongeurs Professionnels). I don't have detail about the 09 version but the 70's version had a monocoque case milled from one complete piece of metal, a security button for the rotating bezel, and a square crown on the left sealed by a fluted compression nut. It was water resistant to 600 meters. |

The strap on the left IMO looks very much like the one used by Breitling for some of their models

The strap on the left is the Omega mesh that has been used on the Omega dive watches for many years. The original Ploprof came with the mesh as did many vintage Omega divers.
It is still available and I wear one on my SMP: It is "industrial strength" measuring 4mm thick but is the most comfortable bracelet I have encountered. If you want a serious diver tool watch, the new Ploprof is it IMO. The Deep Sea is a "toy" compared with this one. Fr. John† |

Ooops! My bad.
The bracelet is actually a new metal bracelet which Omega calls "Shark Proof". Fr. John† |

It does nothing for me but I know it has a cult following and it's great to see Omega bringing back it's classic design.

I love Omega...my SMP Chrono is one of my all-time favorites. But this comment is a joke in its own right. If I wanted the Ploprof look, I would get an original...not a new watch trying to look vintage. Come on...is Omega so hurting for new ideas they need to revert to old models? What's the point of the show for them? Is this Basel '09 or Basel '76? Lastely...that mesh bracelet is hot...but I have a feeling its clasp is no Glidelock!
