Is it safe to visit AD’s regularly?

Gentleman,

I have gotten into a terrible habit. Each time I am near an AD I find myself walking in, seemingly without thinking. Unfortunately while shopping for my wife’s Valentine’s present I fell into this trap once again. On Thursday I was at the Lenox Mall in Atlanta to purchase a bracelet for my wife. After making the purchase I found myself walking into Mayor’s for no other reason than to look at the nonexistent sports model Rolex’s. As soon as I make it through the door I glance at the wall display. To my horror there is a 116613LB staring back at me. I immediately knew the situation was dire. You see I previously owned a 16613 and missed it terribly. The new ceramic bezel has grown on me in recent years and the improvements to the bracelet along with the added heft of the watch itself have moved this bluesy to the top of my list. I knew what I had to do. After taking a seat and drinking half of a bottle of water I muttered the words “let’s do it”. Now I am thrilled, ecstatic, and completely elated with my purchase. But this begs the question, when someone realizes they suffer from the same sickness as most of the gentlemen on this forum, IS IT SAFE TO FREQUENTLY VISIT AD’s? I think not. Without further ado.. INCOMING!

It was a lot more dangerous back in the day when they actually had everything in stock. Most of the time nowadays it’s perfectly safe to walk in because I stop at several boutiques a week while I travel and they pretty much are always empty. In fact the only things I ever see of late has been the SD43mm, the blusey and the James Cameron. Those seem to be (more often now)everywhere. I did see a YG Sky Dweller black dial that was stunning this week.

Congrats on your sub. A total classic and beautiful.

Btw, is that a GMTII Black on the SA’s wrist? I think so, judging from the PCLs...

Congratulations! You are right, walking into an AD is a slippery slope.

Safe for you physically but the old wallet might take some hard hits.

My opinion is life is too short and if it doesn't jeopardize your household finances or drive the wife to apoplexy, then by all means satisfy yourself and be happy.

Congrats on the Sub, the updates are excellent and really improve the reference. Although, the 3135 movement will be upgraded shortly so hopefully that's not important to you. In any case, great score.

I had those two exact watches. Bluesy came after the Daytona. I had wanted a Bluesy for as long as I can remember. Always thought it was a stunner. Not sure why but I never bonded with it and almost never wore it after the first few months. I think it was too flashy for me now and I’m more a one metal watch person now. Tastes change over the years. I still think it’s a beautiful watch. I ended up selling the Bluesy for SS SkyD.

Congrats on your purchase and wear in the best of health. And no, it’s not safe to frequent your AD unless you’re prepared to feed the addiction

I considered the movement upgrade but it’s not really important to me. I don’t wear my watches on any type of schedule and I sort of enjoy the mechanics of winding the watch so it an extra 24 hours of power reserve didn’t really move the needle for me. In terms of future value I suspect Rolex will make at least minor aesthetic changes with the introduction of a new movement. I plan on keeping it forever so I’m not concerned about resale.

Understood. Just for the record: In no way was I insinuating future value or selling. I have a DJ41 which features the 3235. and the 70 hour power reserve is a wonderful bonus for me. Others could care less so clearly it's a subjective issue. To each his own. The only thing of importance is the enjoyment of owning a classic Rolex.

Nice pick up Eric! That’s my AD as well and I frequently stop in and chat with Poppy and the rest of their team! Very nice people and a beautiful store.

Congrats on your Bluesy!.. Thats how I purchased my Expll polar which also led to a chain of events for me. I liked the polar but it wasn't on my radar, once i tried it on that warm feeling came over me but still i walked only to return the next morning, mine now. A short while after the SA/manager called and offered me a Batman, mine! Again a few months later and to make it a complete Gmt tri-fecta they took in an F ser. 16710 full set that they had sold new, that one's been on my radar for awhile so of course it ended up on my wrist as well. So ya, it's not always safe but it was fun, costly but worth it.

My dream is to walk into an AD and for them to actually have in stock what I'm looking for. You did the right thing. Congrats, she's a beauty.

Congrats. Wearing my 16613 bluesy today.
It is definitely dangerous to walk into the local AD.
Been in twice this year and left with an Explorer II and a Breitling Avenger Seawolf.
I’ll have to close my eyes and run past for the next few weeks.
