Women’s Rolex Datejust 31 loosing power.

Good day all.

My wife’s Rolex datejust 31 ref; 178274 which was purchased 2 years ago new from AD has been running consistently slow. She wears it daily and wears it day and night. Any ideas why this would be slowing down?

Local AD is busy atm and asked me to contact them in March. Would this need to be serviced or fall under the 5 year warranty period?

Any advice would be highly appreciated.

Hi if it were me I wouldn’t accept they are too busy!

How slow is it running if it’s way outside the +/- 2 seconds per day then I’d get them to send it back to Rolex to be adjusted. The AD may be able to put it on a machine to check immediately if they have the equipment in store like some do to confirm your suspicions.

It would be fixed under the guarantee.

I can believe them. They aren’t many Rolex service centers in my city and all ADs are under one ‘family’ They have a small service team.

Basically losing 6-7 minutes in around 3-4 weeks

I don’t think you HAVE to get it serviced by them. You can ask them to send it off to the official Rolex Service Center.

Or you can call the RSC yourself, have them send you a box, then you ship the watch.

I’ve never done this myself, but it is my understanding that this is how it works.

That your AD is busy is rude. I wouldn’t take that either.

Also, if you’re going to let the AD open the watch themselves, make sure it is a certified Rolex service center or whatever

Basically, make sure it’s not just a watchmaker that’s isn’t Rolex certified

Because I believe the latter will void your warranty

Have it sent to Rolex. Don’t let AD’s do it themselves even if they have a watchmaker. I’m sure many are very good but I’d much rather it was at the RSC if something went wrong.

Whenever a watch goes into service, they frequently list the watch has been subjected to shock. The Rolex warranty has a disclaimer that the warranty doesn't cover damage from misuse. I would call the RSC and ask if they send a shipping box and label for you to send directly to RSC, or is it required you go through the AD for warranty repairs.

If the timekeeping is genuinely unacceptable, then send it to the RSC and simply bypass the AD's monopoly.
I assume the watch has a valid factory warranty.

It's pretty new. If it has always been this way, it likely just needs to be properly regulated. A quick look on a timegrapher would let you know.
