What is the "full experience" at an AD?

I keep reading about people mentioning buying from an AD and getting the "full experience". What is that? I have bought two new Rolex watches (2007 and 2018) and one Tudor (2020) from an AD and the "experience" was them letting me try it on and then taking payment. What am I missing out on?

When I got my BLRO, I was offered not 1 but 2 mini bottles of water. Does that count for the "full experience"?

What is the "full experience" at an AD?

All ADs are NOT created equal — and you’re not ‘missing’ out on anything.

I’ve received everything from swag to wine to whiskey to someone going to get me Starbucks to just good conversation.

Never have I ever expected a thing.

Pick a watch, make payment, size it, give a nice handshake, then proceed out the door. If you're lucky you may even receive some Rolex swag. All depends on the AD

Back in the day, it meant paying full retail vs. getting a discount via the grey market...at least that was my definition of "full" AD experience.

Nowadays, it's cheaper to go the AD route. I haven't found it to be any more amazing than going grey market. Alas, I'm not a huge spender, so I don't get the pat on the back or Rolex umbrellas, etc. that come with spending 6 figures at the shop.

Bottled water and the occasional swag. Getting your name on the card.

Things are much different today than 10-20 years ago.

You aren't missing anything.

I got a cup of Keurig style coffee. It wasn't very good, but I thanked the SA for it anyway. I thought about coming here to complain about the coffee, but then I figured, "if you don't have anything nice to say, . . . ." I posted a pic or two of the watch I bought instead.

Well, for me it is walking away with a fully paid full set in a brown shopping bag, concealing the ADs actual bag.

This being the year 2020...
Walk in happy
Some chit-chat (brief)
Find watch I want

They resize it (if/as needed)
Thank AD for great resizing
Maybe some brief chit-chat
Walk out happy.
The end.

In 1995
Walk in
Talk about the AD's recent vacation trip to ___
AD pulls out wonderful new timepiece(s)
We talk about the new movement within the ___
Discuss wife/kids/music/whatever
Get offered some Cola (AD knows i don't drink alcohol)
We talk some more
Look a few more timepieces
Decide to buy ___
We discuss the movement, case, and/or strap / bracelet options i can add on
Bracelet adjusted if/as needed
Thank AD for making a great adjustment, it fits wonderfully
Buy extra bands, etc if desired
Now with timepiece on my wrist, we say how great it looks on my wrist and how glad i got it.
We talk about a few last things.
AD hands me a really nice book, brochure, etc about watches... maybe even some swag

I just purchased a DJ41 last weekend. My AD brought me and my sister in the back room and brought out my watch plus a few other pieces and let me try a bunch on. Then he poured me and my little sister a few glasses of champagne. It was actually a pretty great experience. I also spoke with the manager and the watch technician while I waited for my watch to be sized. I purchased an OP39 from them back in 2017 and that wasnt anything special in terms of an experience.

Name on warranty card (old days, a fully stickered watch). Try on other watches. Be offered an adult beverage. Maybe come home with a little catalog or other gift. Good convo.

That is what I’d call the “full experience”.

This is a question I should have asked earlier as I just got my FIRST ROLEX (DJ41 w/ Jubilee Black face - LOVE IT).

The SA was very nice through the whole process. Offered me beverages and swag. When the owner saw me he came over put his hand on my shoulder and thanked me personally. He then offered me hockey tickets as a thank you. I told him thank you but politely refused and asked him to "please just keep me on the list for that GMT" I came into the store (foolishly in hindsight) looking for months before.

It was a memorable experience, but it was not anything over the top. Just very well handled.

The experience is about buying new, similar to when you buy a brand new car with 0 km on the odometers.
The experience is to have the watch resized to your wrist for the first time, and been able to take the stickers off yourself.
The experience of knowing no one has ever done anything wrong to your watch, opened the case or even altered its original state. Also I count in the experience of sleeping well not halving that voice in the back of my mind that keeps asking “could my watch be fake?!!!!”
That’s the experience, not a big deal, it’s small but worth living.

Last Debember, a good conversation, selected my timepiece (I knew beforehand they had the DJ41 I was looking for), paid, SA offered to resize the watch which I refused courteously, he removed the stickers, offered me a cup of coffee, continued a good conversation for a couple of minutes, goodbye.

I had great experiences purchasing timepieces. If you had a chance to choose or enhance your experience what will it be>\?

I don't think in this climate there is " The AD Experience "
anymore unfortunately...

Back in 2015 I had good experiences at my AD .
What " enjoythemusic " Steven said pretty much...
Plus a discount to boot...

Depends man. Some ADs will go out of their way to provide an 'experience' for the buyer. Kind of kickstart their bond with the watch, so to speak.

But believe me, there are plenty of other ones that are just like "fork over the cash bub" lol
