Whats a better investment DD 18238 or DJ 126333
So getting close to finally pulling the trigger (I hope) on a watch and Question what is the better investment when it comes to either the DD 18238 or DJ 126333.
Its hard to spend so much money on a 25 year old watch with an older movement compared to a newer watch with newer movement..Something in my brain is have problems with that scenario ..... There is a lot to think about its not just a DD vs DJ on what looks better or personal preference for size 36mm vs 41mm but there is more to think about about these two watches such as; 1) what will be worth more later if I want to sell 2) will a 25 year old DD bracelet with stand many more years to come over a new jubilee bracelet 3) is the newer movement better to have over an older movement. 4) servicing an older DD can cost more in the long run if it needs be overhauled. 5) all parts are 25 years older inside and out....

For a long term investment choose a Total Stock Market Index Fund.

You're all over the map. From FVF, NPV, resale to serviceability to designs...
Buy the one you can afford and prefer on looks and worry about 25yrs from now in 25yrs. The world is an enterprising place. Someone will find and offer a solution to most any problem. |

Watches are not an investment.
They are jewelry. Buy what you like. Wear it. Enjoy it. If you can sell it later and fund something else, awesome. Buy with the expectation that it may end up with $0 value.

Without knowing the amount of time, it would just be a guess not an investment

Could be worse a 20 page thread on how do you finance your Rolex.
Back on the subject buy the one you like.

You'll loose 4K on the DJ right away, and about 12K on the DD.
So I guess the DJ is the better investment. Investment is the wrong word to be using when talking about luxury watches. |

If there is no stretch on the bracelet of the DD you are good to go. Service is the same as anything else.
And the DD really pops and blows your mind. |

We keep taking the bait...it would be better if an “investment” thread was met with crickets chirping and no replies

You're over thinking and analyzing, go with what makes you happiest. These are luxury purchases that people should buy for pleasure. Good luck, they're both nice pieces.

IMO Modern Rolex > Old Rolex.
And stop thinking about investments, if you can't spend that money, don't spend that money. |

Lol, I wonder if this is probably why Rolex is driving the stainless steel shortage. Anyone who cares enough about the value retention of a 5 digit price tag on a watch is probability not 'rich' enough for the clientele they want to sell to.

DD should hold its value better over time, assuming the bracelet is tight.
