Incoming (whiskey)

Behold, my first Blanton's. A dude at my local grocery store was kind enough to set one aside for me. Hope it's as good as they say!

What's your favorite bourbon?

In my experience, Buffalo Trace is the best bourbon for when you're planning to drink a whole lot of bourbon. Those bottles empty out fast, and you don't feel guilty about wasting a super complex whiskey. It's sweet, welcoming, and eminently drinkable.

That's the impression I had after trying the standard Buffalo Trace.

I enjoyed Eagle Rare (you know, for paying $36 for the bottle) and I guess I now get to try this one without worrying about "saving it" for a fancy occasion. People tell me the BT whiskeys are quite good for their price- it's the obnoxious premiums that sort of set the standard far too high.

I remember a few years back my local Costco had a full pallet of Blanton's in the liquor store. Those where the days.

Blanton is really good. I’m lucky, I’ve got a spot close by that always seems to have it for retail. The BT antique collection are great, for the ones I’ve been able to try but the secondary market is insane! If you can get them at retail do it all day. My personal bang for buck favorite is EH Taylor small batch. Enjoy the Blantons.

Blanton's is very tasty, you will enjoy it. Just don’t fall too much in love with it as its hard to get in most parts of the country.

For the money, Basil Hayden is a good daily bourbon.

Very nice. My preference for drinkers lately would be old forester 1910 and Angels envy rye. I think I like double barreled stuff.

If I had cash to set ablaze I’d drink michters 20 every day.

A few years ago my wife bought me a bottle of Blanton's for my birthday. I was lucky enough at the time to have a bottle of Buffalo Trace and Eagle Rare on hand and did a "vertical" tasting. In my opinion each are the best at their price point. It is just a shame that they are so hard to find here in NC or SC.

For my my money I will stick with either Four Roses Small Batch or Woodford. Never a problem finding them.

Special occasion - Love this when I can get it which is rare:
Pappy Van Winkle.

Sipping, when PLCB stocks it:
Blantons.

Daily or for mixing:
Evan Williams
Buffalo Trace

Just checked local availability. Good news it is available, bad news $160 ask!

At least better than Rolex AD. No wait list or requirement that I buy several crappy bottles first.

To be honest, I'm still new to bourbon- the best I've had is Eagle Rare, which I enjoyed the profile of very much. I'm usually a Scotch/rye-guy and really dig the Whistlepig line-up.

Blantons bottling line has their own small building on the grounds of Buffalo Trace.
