Trade 3 for 1. What do you think?

I’m on the waiting list for a 5712/1A at the moment but will have to consolidate the collection a bit in order to make this purchase happen. For this to happen, 3 watches will have to go and I have chosen the following:

Daytona, submariner and GMT.

The other watches will stay in the collection so those are the three I have in mind. Would you do a 3 for 1?

The 5712 would be brand new at msrp.

Yes I would and I did.

But not those three, not a chance.

I would trade the JLC, the Explorer, the Submariner and the Tudor

No, I would not. The 3 you are giving up are a perfect set, and I would not change a thing. See what else you can move.

+1

I did something similar for my 5711 and already replaced the Rolex.

having tried on a 5711, 5164, and 5712....

i just don’t get it at all.

but each to their own!!

sage advice given to me once by a collector of fine art.

“do not buy if you have to sell in order to buy.”

I personally wouldn’t sell those 3, but there’s obviously no right or wrong either way. Best of luck, congratulations, and enjoy if you do go ahead with the change!

First of all - 5712 is one you can't say no to. No matter what.

I would really try to keep one of the three you listed though. I actually would seriously consider getting rid of the 15500.

Or dump the Tudor, JLC and Explorer and add cash if you can. Explorer is a great watch, but it's replaceable.

Which Daytona, Sub and GMT you have?

If it is a 4 digits, no. If it’s a 6 digits, hell yeah.

OP - Are there any watches in you collection/sig that are definitely not for sale?

My preference would be to keep the Daytona if possible, this is the one that's the most over retail if you miss it and want to replace later. Although it's also a good chunk of cash.

Either way looks like your picking up a great piece soon. Congratulations.

I agree, get the 12 for sure but try to keep at least one of those Rolexes, if not 2.

Nope.

I’ll keep what I have and just wait until my surplus reaches 1.25x whatever it is I am trying to buy and add it then.

No way I would do that trade. Variety always trumps jonesing for a grail.

Plus, there's a good chance you'll cool on the 5712 after a while and really miss the Daytona, Sub, and GMT.

Wouldn't do the Pepsi, but I'm biased.

I think the trade is worth it fi you dont love the watches you'd be trading and you want to minimize your collection.

I would probably swap one of the Rolex's out but yes, I would do the 3 in a heartbeat.

Assuming you are moving the 3 at market value plus getting the 5712 at MSRP, it's a win-win situation. Any modern Rolex is replaceable at a later date.

I've tried on the 5712 and 5711... all I can say, dream watch!

I would not but I don't find any Patek with the Genta design attractive. They have so much more to offer

Maybe consider getting rid of the GMT and Sub then adding cash?

I would never trade a SS Daytona

I would switch one of those 3 Rolex with your 15500. I can't imagine ever wearing the 15500 if I had a 5712. But I can imagine wearing a Daytona, Sub or GMT if I had a 5712.

Yeah, I would definitely but move different watches. You're getting rid of your best Rolex's.

I would get rid of the RO. You've already got the aquanaut, and the 5712 can definitely replace the RO nicely.

I would do it, but as others have said, I'd try to trade other watches.
I'm not sure if the selection of your current watches on your bio are up to date, but I'm going to assume they are.
If it were me, I'd keep 5712, 116520, 16710, and 5167 and gladly sell the rest.

We all have different tastes, but I would at least try to keep the Daytona, unless it doesn't sing to you whatsoever.
It will be expensive to replace, and it won't be getting any cheaper.
Good luck anyway, and this is a fantastic problem to have ;)

Lot of love for Rolex here but is that even a question??? Don’t walk, run! If it’s an even trade then I would call it a no brainer.
