Question for the guys who wear heavy chains

Right now my daily wearer is a 60g 18K curb chain just like this:

It has a heavy lobster clasp which is easy to operate.

I'm considering upgrading to a 175g 18K curb chain. Both chains are 22" and sit at a comfortable height. This chain instead has a box clasp with 2 side safety figure 8's.

I was considering, if I purchase it, to delete the box clasp (slide-in spring piece) and just go to a heavy lobster clasp. There is also a small safety chain installed on it as well...this I would leave alone.

Getting back to the clasp proposition...Would that be a stupid move?

I should add for clarity: I wear the chain every single day, taking it off only to go to bed, and putting it on immediately in the morning.

I have a 22mm Miami Cuban link chain in white gold with a sleek lock that weighs 76g. I never take it off. Well, only once in a blue moon to clean it.

For the curb chain your looking at, I would keep the box clasp. Old school baby! Plus with a chain that heavy, not sure I’d have a lobster clasp on it.

I'd keep the box clasp. The box clasp doesn't have the rings like a lobster clasp that will wear down with a heavy chain.

I have a 22 inch, 87gm curb link chain. When I wear it I leave it on 24/7, only remove it to clean it or change necklaces. It has a box clasp with double side locks. Very comfortable to wear. Cheers

I meant to add that it’s 18k yellow gold.

Honestly I expected more love for the lobster!!
(alright, that’s not a lobster above but it’s the closest we’ve got )

Thank you for the replies! I’m supposed to drive down in a few weeks to go actually try it on.

18K yellow gold....can’t get enough of it!

Thank you all for your replies.

What the hell. We can put a man on the moon.....

It's rather disappointing that we have not come up with a clasp that is both invisible and foolproof that actually works.

As we all know the clasp will ALWAYS make it's way to the most wrong and stupid place instead of staying at the back of the neck.

I've had a number of different neck chains over the years and they all suck.

I'm going back to bed.

I have a sleek lock on my Miami Cuban link chain. I opted for that instead of the box lock for the “sleeker” profile and look. Google it or search for it on YouTube. I rarely take my chain off. 99% of the time, the clasp stays put on the back of my neck. The other 1%, it maybe shifts every so slightly.

My 24 inch Chain plus ID Bracelet plus Saddle Ring & Horseshoe Ring. There is a Lobster Clasp on the Chain & a Box Clasp on the ID Bracelet & I have found both good

Since this is a great discussions on the relative merits of clasps, what do you think of the clasp on this bracelet....

Thinking about a bracelet but the lighter lobster claws I see on most put me off given my extremely active lifestyle. If I cant wear it 24/7 then “No Thanks”.

I am just fascinated by the amount of gold in Dubai at the Gold Souk Market. I am honestly saying that there is millions and millions of dollars of gorgeous 22cwt and 20 CWT jewelry in virtually any style, type etc etc etc you would like to buy. My wife and I always try to buy one really heavy weight piece every time we go to DUBAI because I am not sure you will never ever see anywhere else on the planet like this...

The one shop we went in had chains and wristlets in excess of 300-500 grams of 22CWT chains on hand and for your purchasing pleasure. They are 110% legitimate and super honest on top of it. You can walk the back lanes of Dubai with your solid gold rolex and 350 gram chain if you care without no worries....
