Icon9 Rolex SS Daytona Black Dial or Pepsi

Hello,

I am looking for your input.

I have been fortunate to own both a Rolex Pepsi and a Rolex SS Daytona in the black Dial in my collection. I also have a Rolex Submariner that I got engraved and frequently wear most days and a Patek Calatrava 5196-J.

I am looking to possibly sell either my Pepsi or the Daytona. Sadly, I have a family member that is extremely ill and I am trying to raise funds to help.

Would you part with the Daytona or the Pepsi if you were me?

I haven't worn the Pepsi in over 6 months and I frequently wear the Submariner because of the increased adjustment capabilities because my wrist seems to swell at various times during the day. I am not interested in selling my Submariner or the Patek at this time.

Finally, I love the Daytona and waited for it for years but I honestly can't read the time very well and I have never used the chronograph function. I also haven't worn the Daytona on over 3 months.

I appreciate any thoughts you may have.

Dump the Pepsi, it’s Probaly never gonna be worth more than it is now and the bases are covered with the sub, good luck to your family and that is a nice gesture

Have you considered selling both?

Family is more important than a watch or two.

6 months without wearing the Pepsi sounds like its time for it to find a new home and be worn.
Kind gesture on your part to help a family member in need. I don't think you'd even miss the Pepsi if it's just been sitting for that long.

Depends on how bad you need the money. I'm sorry you are in this position.

Icon7 Thank you for your input

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for your input. I want to help my family and I agree I don't think I would miss a watch very much that I haven't worn for so long.

I truly appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts.

Sorry to hear. Hoping for fast and full recovery.

Sell the Daytona.

U say u can’t read the time easily and u don’t use the chrono.
Plus, the re-sale profit(?) margin is much higher.

Sorry to hear about your family member. It does sound like you could probably sell both, honestly. However given the choice between the two I would absolutely sell the Pepsi.

Sounds like you should sell both. Neither one appeals to you at this point. Good time to sell. After market could soften from here.

Daytona, especially you find it not being so legible. You can maximise on the hyped market value of this watch and cash in.

I wish you and your family all the very best. Nice of you.

Definitely sounds like you should sell both, honestly. I have both the Pepsi and the black Daytona, and I'd sell the Daytona in a heartbeat before the Pepsi personally. But not having worn it in 6 months means it's time for yours to go.

Eeeeasy choice, sell the Daytona. My AD kinda offered a black dial yet I can't read it so passed. You have the same legibility problem my eyes do, and it will never get easier to read black dial so sell and help family. Sell both if need be.

Sell them both if you need the money. Alternatively maybe sell one and trade the other for something else you like?

Sell the Pepsi. Keep the Daytona for now. It will only increase in price. If you find three months from now you still aren’t wearing the Daytona than sell it or flip it. I believe in wearing watches in a collection

Sell the Pepsi, you haven't wore it for 6 months already. Best wishes for your family member. Get well soon!

Sorry you and the family are going through tough times.

As many have mentioned, I would sell both. An unworn watch is a watch not worth having.

Hope all works out.

Dump the Black Daytona. I found the same issue with legibility and traded off my black dial 116500 for a BLRO. Kept my 116520 White dial, much easier to read. BLRO highly legible. Best of luck with your personal issues.

I hooked up my best friend with a guy I new who's sister was in dire straits. All she had was a like new pristine 5 digit sub. My buddy bought for what we thought was a fair price.. $2000 more than what David SW offered. Sad thing is, in a few months the $6000 he paid will be gone and so is the watch. Keep kicking myself for not buying the watch myself.

Yes, the OP didn't need to mention the reason, so to a certain extent, he did open the door to discussion. But I don't think anyone needs the realization talk that 2 watches could raise more money!

We don't know all the details, costs and family dynamics and we shouldn't act like we do.

He(We) certainly don't need a lesson on which is more important, a watch or family. It is condescending IMO.

OP, I hope everything works out for you and your family. I suppose it comes down to which one makes your heart flutter a little more. Obviously only you know that. If the sub is sure keeper, I'd probably move the pepsi as it's going to fill similar shoes. That said, my preference would be to keep the pepsi, daytona and PP. Perfect trio right there. But obviously being engraved it sounds like the sub has some sentimental value. Also might not raise as much funds as you're looking to attain.

Sorry to hear and hoping it all turns out good - sell which one you don't wear as often. I'd let the Pepsi go - easier to replace should you decide to once things balance back out.
