Marathons worth it?

Any advise from current or former Marathon owners.......are they worth the price? How are the automatics? Too big?

Worth every penny and then some. Priced so they should be in every watch collection. This is my second, gave the first to my son [another fan]. They don't wear big but do stand kinda tall. Great lume. A Sub on steroids.

Thanks.
It's a ton of SS that's for sure. The solid bracelet adds a nice balance. I prefer the SAR dial for it's simplicity but they have other dials, movements, and sizes to meet everyones needs.

They're worth every nickel. Find an SAR, you'll love it. Mine works perfectly.

Mine came delivered running about 20 sec fast per day. My watchmaker did a quick regulation and it's now running + or - 2 sec per day. Mine has been consistant but I would recommend a regulation.

I have the DSAR with the Canadian Bracelet. I bought it brand new in the box as a safe watch and am looking for another one with the tritium vials for a reasonable price. The DSAR was a production error which caused about 200 of the watches to be misprinted on the dial, that they were tritium watches, when they were not. I do not know if they will be worth anything in the future but I am going to try for about 10 years and then sell it. They are built rock solid and stand for search and rescue. They are sometimes military or law enforcement issued. The movement in the automatics are a ETA 2824. They also have quartz models that require a battery.

Like others have said here, they are a Submariner on steroids.

I'm a fan of mine. And to respond to some criticisms:

1. Mine was about 8 seconds fast, unregulated. Very precise though--I kept track of it for about 14 or 15 days straight, and it was consistently 8 secs fast per day.
2. Chunky, but not too chunky. I think the size is about right....

I just purchased a used GSAR and got a great deal on it. I got it for $455.00 and they normally retail for a lot more than that. I will post pictures of my two Marathons when this one arrives. It is going to be my work horse watch.

Kevin:

I wish I had seen the one you had for sale. I would have rather bought from someone on TRF than E-Bay. I have had the DSAR for a safe watch but the GSAR I am getting to wear as my beater watch. It looks like it is built like Fort Knox. I am impressed with the DSAR but I don't want to wear it as it may be valuable some day.

No worries. I just posted it a couple days ago. I actually saw your post indicating that you were looking, but I hadn't decided to sell at that point. I love the watch, but I never wear it--I always pick the Sub over the Marathon (wonder why?) so it just sits lonely in the box.

Don't own one BUT I will someday...
Other watches just keep stealing my $$$

They are a GREAT watch for the money, can take a serious beating.

I still have to take pictures of the both of mine. My one, that I bought from an active duty soldier in Afghanistan, needs to be regulated as it is running two minutes fast. The beauty of the story is that he was selling it so that he could get a flak jacket that might save his life. I feel proud that I helped a soldier. The watch came in absolutely pristine condition.
