What does it mean if a watch is running but loosing something like 15 mins in 5 hours time? Also if one wears it all day and take it off at night the power reserve seems to cut out early and the watch stops functioning by morning the next morning?

What do you folks make of it? Mainspring? Easily repair or travesty?

Hi Greg,

Welcome to TRF.

15 mins. loss over just 5 hours is ridiculous and constitutes a serious problem with the mechanism of the watch.

It definitely needs to be taken in for service. If the Main spring were broken, then the watch wouldn't run at all.

If you wear any modern day automatic watch for around 7~8 hours a day, it should carry on working for at least 42 hours or so.

Your watch needs to be attended to.....by an expert.

needs servicing..
and nothing is that serious as long as you dont get salt water in your movement!!
most everything else can be fixed!!

We really don't have enough information for an informed diagnosis here..

Coud be water damage......but then, if the watch is a few years old, it could be something as simple as lack of oil in critical areas..

Or something all together different..

A full service, cleaning and oiling from a qualified Rolex Service Center will be about 500 bucks and should include the small parts that might be causing this problem

If water got inside would condensation on the inside of the crystal be present?

If you are going to ship the watch to get it fixed, pull the crown all the out to stop the movement...no need to make a bad problem worse!

It is virtually impossible to diagnose what is wrong or what happened to the watch over the Internet, bring it in to the RSC in NY or send it to Dallas.

As long as the watch is not smashed into thousands of pieces, it is fixable. How much it would cost is another matter, but it is likely that the costs of repairs are much less than the cost of replacing the watch.
