GMT 1675 from the 60s

hello,

My dealer is offering me this GMT 1675 from the 60s for 9500 usd.
All original except the clasp and 2 and last to links (a later years clasp)
Comes with original box (not in the best condition)

questions:
Is this a good watch to buy considering the clasp? (he told me he can change the clasp for period one)
Is it in price? How does this clasp effect it's value and condition?

Thank you

It’s far from original. Service dial, hands and insert.

No not at all, the price is reflective of the service parts.

Also very badly over-polished.

Still valuable though.

Depends what you’re looking for. My view: If you want a watch with some integrity and honesty and that’s been respected, this ain’t it. If you’re looking for a bargain basement GMT that looks like GMT, seems like the price is sort of right. If it was me, I would save up to get a real GMT, or buy a lower end watch with some integrity and honesty at that price

I dont believe that is a genuine ROLEX service dial.
Its either original dial reworked or a rework dial.

As you say dial and hands are far from original

It’s a 100% genuine tritium service dial. When I said ‘original’, I meant original to to watch, not counterfeit. Hands, dial, and insert are authentic but later service parts. Case is heavily polished as previously mentioned, especially top left and bottom right lugs. Price reflects condition though and is fair in my opinion.

I’ve lost count of the amount of ‘reworked’ matt dials I’ve seen. 99% of them are junk. I’ve yet to see a fake service dial that is even half way close to the original. The best ones are the fake radial mk3’s and even those are obvious if you know what you’re looking at.

Agreed
If its 100% Rolex it was replaced prior to 1998, and I would have thought they would have also changed hands - but to me those hands do not match the dial.

Hence, I doubted it was Rolex Service.

Since you asked, few of the visible parts are original and the price is substantially high.

It's a service watch and they normally sell from $6,000 to $9000 depending on the condition and what original parts are left on the watch.

There is nothing wrong with "service watches" but they normally aren't sold in the same price range as a nice original watch with correct original parts.
