Help needed bad, vintage Rolex
I need as much help as I can get on this watch. Time period, value, originality, or pretty much anything. Please help me out here. I am seriously considering of buying but need as much help as I can get. I know my fair share on modern Rolex's but cant say the same about the vintage models. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Sorry bro, don't have much info on that model. If I had to guess, it's be circa 1950's. But that's just a guess. Wish I had more info.

You say you're going to buy it..
What do you want from us.... It looks like a mid -late 40's Bubbleback. Nipple style dial triangles, dauphine hands.. don't know about what movement you might find inside. Could be original, hard to say......... The Brevet crown is an older style but that one appears too "new" to be an original to the watch. The oddity is the "flushfit" endpieces which did not appear until early 50's.... I may have missed the dating on the head...........but I'm thinking aftermarket bracelet ?? This may be a mixture of parts from a few different years, but all-in-all, if they are all authentic parts, then it's a fine purchase. It's steel, so I would say about half the value of a modern Rolex... Depends on originality and authenticity...

I'd look on Ebay and try to find this era and how much they have sold for.
I see these types going for ranges from $300 to $2000. Who knows without more info tho. Good luck! |

Finding out if it was a true Bubbleback was the main thing. Those seem to bring decent money. Im probably just going to flip it but who knows.

Well, I havent bought it or committed to it yet, but I think Ill get it for a fair, not great, price. Its supposed to be like a '52 model. Does that look about right?

If what Larry (tools) said is correct, and I would tend to side with him, you may have a franken/aftermarket bubbleback on your hands. Personally, I would wait for a better example to come along at a "great" price. There is nothing fair about a put together IMHO.

J D,
I sent you a PM and told you Orchi was the man Look here: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=73320 I'd suggest you buy from Orchi or at least have him look over your photos. I don't know enough to give you a valid answer. John

Thanks John, I just sent him a PM. Im really just thinking of flipping this watch so Im trying to decide what its worth. A jeweler has looked at it and opened it up and says it has the original movement, but I doubt that jeweler had the knowledge of this forum

Err buddies...sorry for late response...
Which Case Ref# & Serial Nos. of this watch...? Which Cal. movement...? Auto or Manual winding...? 1st up...that watch looks like a Ref 6094 in the 50s....but need to be sure... May be Manual Winding Cal. 740...with "Super Oyster" case & crown...meaning there is NO bezel attachment...being 2 piece construction... Also if you notice closely...there is NO lug holes on one side of the Case... this is unique to "Super Oyster" case of those era...50s. The backcase is Bubble like...but this model should be a Semi-Bubbleback. The Dial is NOT original anymore...as it has been REFINISHED...& Re-Lumed... Orchi had a similar watch like this...BUT a lot more handsome... It was SOLD to a local collector... IF you check back one of Orchi's OLD thread in FS market...you might be able to make the necessary comparison... http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=40983 Orchi's recommendation on this watch... PLEASE STAY AWAY...from it. |
