Scratched.... by a finger nail?!

Let me state up front: I am not starting yet another should-I-polish thread. I fully expect my daily wearer to receive many, many scratches.

Last night I noticed my first case scratch on my new sub (already have some marks on the bracelet—YOLO). What happened next surprised me.

I ran my finger nail lightly across the case to feel how deep the scratch is—you know, to feel if my nail gets caught in the scratch. (Turned out not to be deep.). However, my finger nail created another scratch! This one even fainter, but I was still surprised.

The first pic shows the original scratch on top, nail scratch on bottom. Second pic captures them both.

Is this surprising to others? I thought Rolex uses proprietary, super magical steel (slightly joking). Note, I do not have unusually sharp nails! This makes me glad I have a reference that is mostly brushed steel.

Try wiping the side of the case with a microfiber cloth...there is no chance your finger nail should scratch the side of the Sub case, I don't care how hard your fingernails are.

His finger nail dislodged a small piece of metal and dragged it across the watch scratching it.

Agree. Not unless that nail is Adamantium and you’re Wolverine.

A cape cod cloth will remove those in approx 15 secs of rubbing.

So what are you starting this thread for then? Looking for sympathy from the “adds character” team?

OP here. No specific agenda for the thread. Just a somewhat humorous and surprising occurrence. Never thought my nail would mark the watch. What else are we going to talk about? 1/2 the new threads repeat on a 10 day cycle.

I confirmed it’s a very fine scratch after a vigorous microfiber clothe rub. Roger on the cape cod cloth, thank you, but I will leave as-is.

Oh, and no plastic on the watch.

Even constant rubbing from Oxford shirt cuffs, which is cotton fabric will cause micro scratches.

The polish surfaces of Rolex watches are very easy to scratch even with a nail. I had such experience with my new Pepsi.

Could it have been left over glue from the stickers that were on the watch...
