Some advice 1680 or 16800
Hi
For a while I have wanted to try something a little more vintage. I have been offered the opportunity to pick up one of these. (Actual watches below). The 1680 looks in great shape (has top hat) and the 16800 comes on it’s original bracelet. There is about £4K difference in price. Wondering what you guys think of the watches and what you would go for? It’s my first dip into vintage with Rolex, I currently own a 114060 but have owned a trit 16610 in the past. |

Love that matte bezel and top hat for the 4 digit. What is your goal with this purchase? Just a collector piece or do you plan to actually wear it? 1680 is probably a better collector piece, but the 16800 is a better wearer with the sapphire crystal, quick set date, and better chance of being water resistant. Since you already have a Sub C, the 4 digit would be a fun one to break out and wear every now and then, but I wouldn't want to wear it often.
Of course the older you go the more risk with the purchase as the vintage Rolex market can be a minefield.... make sure you trust the seller. |

Thank you. I would definitely like to wear it. I do have a number of watches, so it would be in rotation. Didn’t think of the water proof aspect, yet again I don’t think I would take it swimming. |

Some places won't even guarantee older 5 digits for WR. Assuming it comes down to how pitted the metal is where the gaskets are located. |

On looks alone I'd go 1680 in this case, but I think you'd get more support on the vintage subforum.

I own both, 1680 would be the choice, if one only.

I think the 16800 might be more durable for everyday wear?
