127 box & papers dilemma.....

it seems my kitchen is out off the door .... microwave all the way now and tv dinners..

next dilemma,i have a huge case of the virus again, sleepless nights, sweating, hot flashes you know the deal , i have stumbled upon my grail ,well after a little looking of course (AND I DO BLAME GUS HERE A LITTLE WITH HIS 217.!!!, SO BUDDY WHEN MY WIFE FINALLY KICKS ME OUT OFF THE HOUSE , ILL BE THE GUY LIVING IN THE BOX IN YER GARDEN..))

a fiddy 127, one very respective jeweller who i know has got one, YET without papers or the original box, however these guy;s have a reputation to uphold and will not sell any fake and it does come with a cert of its authentity (hope i spelled that correct) however due to the missing items he made me a very attractive offer read approx 2500 under the std price.

as i do not flip any watches ,and do not purchase any to sell, what would you do , would you purchase it without the box & papers.. >?? also he has got a LNIB 249 complete for just a tat less.....

should i pull the trigger , or wait till another opp comes by complete...

any comments welcome , help a cloggy to sleep ......

Ha, no kitchen. Where did you get that idea?

Wow. You know you aren't going to sell that one huh. Offering 2500 off. What is the total price he is offering. I've seen them going anywhere from $18-$25.

Well at least you will be living in your house still .. i can get it for 12K Euro/ 16100$ so not a bad deal , and its in Holland what saves me 19% import tax when gettin it from outside Holland.. not so lucky to see any off these being offered in the EU on paneristi...... and they do like to screw you over on importing...

If you can get it marked down because it doesn't come with papers, and you trust the seller, and you intend to keep the watch then buy it. Papers only matter so much.

Well as long as you are sure you aren't going to sell it and don't see yourself needing to sell it (ie finance problems) then I'd say GO FOR IT and be on the lookout for boxes. I don't know why I like them, but I do. They just sit in my closet and I don't plan on flipping them.

$16k is the cheapest I have ever seen for an authentic 127. Lucky dog!

Without box and papers is a tough one, i don't worry about it being authentic, you can tell that straight away, but it's the bigger problem, has it been claimed for on insurance, did the original owner 'lose' it and claim, then had to send the box and papers to the insurers, if this is the case then the watch is legally owned by the insurer, so make sure to get the serial number and run it past Panerai first.

As for box and papers, well you can pick a box up pretty cheap these days, it's easy enough, papers are a little more difficult, since it's a 2002 watch you would have to send your watch off for a Panerai for a service and ask them to carry out a new COSC check and then they will create a new COSC certificate for the watch, the warranty card isn't worth bothering about and you can email Panerai for the booklets, so if you really want the papers you can actually get them, or very close to the originals. If the watch is a keeper then i wouldn't bother.

Good points Ryan. I didn't think about that. Doesn't hurt to run the serial number by Panerai to make sure it is free and clear.

My thoughts... The 127 is gorgeous and his brother the 217 is sweet too. I really wish we could have jumped on these before the premium. Not because they would be worth a lot today. Just because they are a true joy to have. In my opinion, the 127/217 and a few others... are the most beautiful, striking watches I have seen.

I think you should definitely get the 127... For $2,500.00 I think it would be better to have the goodies... A year from now... you won't even remember how much extra you paid for the watch but, you will be glad you have a complete set.

Now, if there just aren't complete sets for sale or if the price jumps up significantly... Owning the watch IMHO... is worth it without the goods.

Good News - Either way you won't have to be in the garden my friend because - I have an extra room! Besides, this might be a bacherlor pad soon. Tonight, I go to Hawaii and while there - I will collect my 233 and my 88. I think my wife is going to put the breaks on my little hobby very soon.

Good Luck with your decision.... I am rooting for you to get a 127!

for the price you've been offered for the 127, it seems like a bargain. however the no box & papers is a real sticky point. check it out with panerai on the serial no. to see if there's no hanky panky and have someone authenticate the watch to make sure all parts are original. if everything is in order, i would say YES....GO FOR IT!

Thx for all the notes guy's , im indeed trying to move forward on the deal, im deff not worried about the legal issues of the watch , as this this would stick back to the seller who will not put his bizz on the line , but indeed its well worth the check ,, good point..

and indeed im not in the selling game, this would be a keeper (if still there.. oh dear another point to worry about .. :-)

once again thx.. !!

ha ha ha i hear you my wife is getting a little tired off the watches also now, and if this would go threw my next purchase will be banned for a while i think ... did i hear a new kitchen....

Good to hear, go for it then, papers and boxes are those things that gather dust unless you're wanting the full set or to sell it.

I would honestly do the check for the serial number, insurance claims are a world apart from stolen watches, they are usually passed around a lot easier than stolen ones and in many cases both the seller and buyer are not even aware, the only people who are aware are the insurers and Panerai (if the insurer has informed Panerai that this watch is lost or destroyed).

I would pass on it!

Personally I would pass on it. The 1950 is one of the most and easiest Panerai watches to reproduce. There is usually a reason expensive watches don't come with papers. Who throws them out? Most fakes 1950's are serial # E0117/1950

I may be the minority but prefer the 249 much more than a 1950. It is my favorite PAM plexi crystal with cali dial is tough to beat.

It would be nice to have box and papers, but for me they just sit in the closet. If it's going to be a keeper I would go for it.

And let me jump on the pic bandwagon...can't wait to see them.

hip hip

well a fellow friend/Risti has checked the watch for me the COSC cert and the movement sticker are actually present with the watch and the watch is clean, so this puppy will be mine.

yes a shame on the box and the cert, but on the other hand its original, one off the last made numbers and seems to be in imaculate state. And indeed this will not be sold off anymore after i buy it anyway..

so i hope to follow up, with Pic's as usual the watch is located in Holland so it will be a month b-4 ill be able to get some pick's ....
