15450 or DD 40?

I appreciate I’m preaching to a Rolex audience and am posting this on the AP forum also. Which would you go for (both brand new full set etc.):

- AP 15450 (37mm) blue dial for £18,900
- YG DD 40 for £24,000

He has 6.5 inch wrist. I know it’s about preference but I’m asking on behalf of my brother who has recently sold his business and wants to buy a watch to commemorate the occasion.

Thanks!

Interesting. Thank you. I’m guessing the DD just feels more ‘special’?

The DD feels like it was carved from a single slab of gold while the 15450 feels comparatively fragile. The AP finishing is top notch but unless you were comparing to a 15202or or something it is just not a fair comparison.

for a 6.5inch wrist I’d go DD36 (or 15450). just me two cents.

D-D 40 for sure unless he gets 15500OR not 15450ST.

You have to compare PM to PM not PM to SS.

AP bracelet is the best especially in rose gold.

I vote for the 15450 blue dial.

There is something about owning a watch from a Manufacture only making around 40000 watches a YEAR

My wrist is only a little larger at 6.75" and I found the 15450 too small when I tried it on (and I'm not a "big watch" guy by any means). Royal Oaks wear large, but 37mm is still a fairly dainty watch. I'd recommend it only if he's definitely fine with smaller watches in general.

While the 39mm Jumbo would probably be just right, it's also expensive and a bit fragile. An old 39mm 15300 might be great, though, if he can find one.

For me, it’s the 15450. It’ll stand out in a room of DDs and make you appear more multi dimensional.

DD40, I just don't think Royal Oaks should be smaller than 39

I guess that kicks the debate of "different strokes".

I would def go DD40...that RG olive dial is stunning...DD are just so classic...there’s a reason why they call it the president.

In this case, it would be the DD but would take 15202 or 15500 Blue over the DD anytime. AP is a spectacular brand with elegant watches.

I also own both (6.3 inch wrist) and it I could only keep one of the two - it would be the DD40.

Finishing is awesome on the AP. It's not as delicate as some folks complain about on this forum. I've had it for almost two years and as you can see... It is in pretty good shape, scratches are pretty minimal.

With that being said, the DD40 just feels way better on the wrist. The weight of gold, the robustness of Rolex, the flagship watch..
