Finally "getting" the appeal of the 5167
I remember reading about this watch a decade ago back when Timezone was still a happening forum with it's moderator trying to dub it "The wort". I must be getting older, because after borrowing a friends for a day, I must confess, I finally "get it". Plus the legibility compared to my daily Daytona was refreshingly nice.
Boy, this watch sure does make a SS Daytona at MSRP look like a bargain value wise. Now the challenging part, trying to find one after the world returns to normal! I will also confess, I think the last one I saw must have been a fake because the details on how the numerals were done is really quite stunning and proportionate. The last one I held in my hand I don't think was a polished or crisp on the hour markers. |

The aquanaut must be seen in person to be fully appreciated. The dial and markers are astonishing, and the pictures don’t do it justice.
Welcome to the aquanaut fan club! |

Yes, agreed. The markers and the shine of the dial were the first thing I noticed!
I'm not quite yet willing to say it's better than the 116519LN WG OF Daytona (which is what I would have to pay gray prices on the 67), but I dare say I'd be willing to get this over a black AP RO. And if you told me I'd be saying that in 2020, I would have told you you were crazy! |

I completely agree about the 5167a. It’s an incredibly comfortable, extremely legible timepiece. Highly finished, with a dial that really plays well with the light. And it can be dressed up, or down, equally well. It’s a beautiful watch, that for some reason doesn’t photograph as well. That being said, here are a few pics of mine.

I sold my Platona - legibility issues - and now have a Smurf and an Aquanaut. Both have very good readability. And the quality of the Aquanaut is superb.

They are so wearable and I love mine too. I think the secondary market prices are a little nutty and need to come down to reality.

I really wanted to like the aquanaut but after both looking at pictures as well as trying it on in person, I just don't get it.

The 5167a is one of the most versatile timepieces available. The legibility, comfort, and lume are absolutely perfect. I wear my 5167a more than any other timepiece in my collection including my 5711.

Glad you're happy with it.
![]() On a related point, I think having small wrists helps. My 5167 has been in the drawer pretty much since I bought it from my AD last year, I just find it too light (I prefer my 5711 on bracelet and my various Rolex, they have "presence") - and I don't have large wrists (average at 6.75"). So annoyed with myself, I had the option of the 5164 at the same time, should have gone for that - definitely next time. You live and learn! |

Wow, very useful photos, thank you! That would help explain why the watch is popping so much. I just thought maybe it was because of the way the rubber strap flared out kind like the OF Daytonas have the same visual illusion. But didn't realize it was actually wider as well.
Now to mediate on R vs A since I'm waiting an eternity anyways... ![]() |

Agreed the 5167a is just
so mesmerising in person, pictures don’t do it justice at all! Here’s my 116519LN and the 5167A side by side! ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
