Sierra AT4 or Tundra Platinum???

I'm missing having a truck and am thinking about trading in my A7 for one. I've narrowed it down to these two. Does anyone have any experience with either? For reference, I used to have a F150 platinum with the ecoboost...I'm thinking of keeping this new one long term and driving it into the ground. The abysmal fuel economy of the tundra is not an issue, but I am somewhat cautious of GM vehicles. I've had a few suburbans that developed issues well before 100,000 miles, but I like the standard features better on the AT4...

To be honest, the sliding down rear window of the Tundra might make up for all it's shortcomings in the tech department, but I'd like to hear if anyone owns either/has an opinion.

I have a 2010 Tundra 4x4, king cab and love it. I have approximately 90k miles on it and take it to the mountains and desert regularly and have never had an issue with it. I really enjoy the roll down rear window because I can get cross breeze flowing inside the truck and not use the A/C.

I still like the F-150. That 10 speed transmission is fabulous.

As you know the Tundra and its powertrain are ancient at this point. If reliability is your thing then that is the best choice. That said they aren't perfect.

My neighbor had one and it had some major issues. The air injection pumps were known to fail outside of warranty. They are required to pass emissions testing and are not cheap the replace. Toyota went a couple years not addressing the design flaw forcing folks to spend out of pocket. I think a class action finally got Toyota taking care of folks after the fact. My neighbor also had repeated issues with the 4wd system. The electric driven actuator would fail.

He just traded for a new 3.5 ecoboost....

F150 with 3.5 eco boost. They discount the XLTs pretty good. Lariat is nice, but you’re not getting a lot for the difference in money as they won’t discount as much as the XLT.

If you are going to keep it and drive it into the ground the Tundra is the only option. They hold value really well also. I own a few of them for my business.

Toyota when MPGs aren’t a concern and you can get the spec you want without blowing budget. The latter has been my issue for a number of years.

Toyota.

8/10 dictators and terrorists would buy again for their army’s and militia when winning and surviving matter.

And gas is $1.50 a gallon... for the next 5 years.

2017 Tundra Limited here.

Reliability, resale is top notch. Dated interior and silhouette though. But you can’t beat the durability and quality.

I would go with the Toyota every day and twice on Sunday. Go to Consumer Reports and watch some excellent videos on You Tube and you have the answer.

Interesting...I ran a Toyota and VW dealership for the past 15 years. Tundra for long term reliability is the way to go. With that said, it’s been unchanged for the most part for 13 years. The technology is very dated and the styling is also outdated.

In my new line of work; I left the car biz to join a family business. I’m dealing with very blue collar, union shops and what not and I’m in the field quite a bit. I just traded my beloved BMW for a new 2020 AT4!

The AT4 is awesome! Love it!! I looked at a Denali, but the AT4 was the one when I saw it and drove it.

I don’t plan on driving it into the ground, and I bought an extended warranty for it for it.

That’s my 2 cents for whatever it’s worth.

Sierra AT4 or Tundra Platinum???

Had a 2017 Tundra Limited and traded for a Sierra Denali 2018. I love the Denali but there are things I miss about the Tundra. The Crewmax is absolutely gigantic inside. Tons of room. Also, it felt like driving a tank. Build quality was excellent. No issues.

The flaws come in the dated drivetrain, interior road noise, and seat comfort. The seats in the Limited were stiff, which led me to trade.

I would love to get a Tundra in the future, if they address those issues.

Also, if you get the Tundra, check out OEM Audio + for a JBL enhancement kit. Completely transforms the stock JBL system. Worth the price.

Sierra no doubt.

The Tundra is long in the tooth.

Do you ever see terrorists or militiamen with Soviet AA guns in the back of a GMC? No, always Toyota.

Lol. Kind of weird justification. Does GMC do sales overseas in the same capacity as Toyota?

Which engine did you go with? I feel like if I go this route, I need the corvette engine...but the possibility of a vehicle that large with 25+ mpg hwy is enticing...and the powertrain warranty on the diesel is 100,000, too...But again, the sliding down back window of the Tundra might be too much to pass up!

Adding all their brands, yes.

‘Toyota sold more vehicles globally in the third quarter of this year than Ford Motor Company, making it the world’s second-largest carmaker after General Motors in that period.

The milestone came two months after the Japanese carmaker leapfrogged Detroit’s number three carmaker Chrysler - the U.S. unit of Germany’s DaimlerChrysler - in terms of sales.

Toyota sold 166,000 more vehicles than Ford did in the third quarter, according to Reuters. Toyota’s total global sales were about 1.57 million.

That is still way behind GM, which sold 6.4 million worldwide in the same period.

GM regards Toyota as its main competitor globally. However, industry observers say Toyota’s robust profits, huge cash pile, efficient manufacturing systems and extensive product research and development means it has the capacity to challenge GM for the top slot.

GM has in recent years adopted many of Toyota’s “lean manufacturing” processes.

This has put it ahead of Ford and Chrysler as all three battle to reduce manufacturing and other costs.‘

Nov 2019 Reuters

For the record, I like both products but if my business or life depended on it, I’d take a Toyota. I’ve been to some real serious ‘places’ and Toyota’s commercial grade stuff isn’t far off their non commercial stuff. If it’s leases and grocery getting or ‘bro’ trucking, then ya. I’d go Big3.

Oh wow, good stuff.

I agree with you. The Toyota felt like it would run forever. The Sierra doesn’t have that quality to me. I love both vehicles for different reasons, but reliability goes to Toyota hands down.

It was meant as a joke, but if Toyotas are good enough for them (who I imagine don't adhere to the manufacturer's maintenance schedule or opted for the optional floormats), then they'll be good enough for whatever the OP uses it for. Who knows, though, he might have a different model of Soviet AA gun that doesn't fit in the Tundra's bed.

I'm on my second Toyota truck. They're boring, slow and low tech. But they hold their value wonderfully and never have a single mechanical issue.
