Question on Papers

When did Rolex switch from the punched paper to the plastic card? Should a circa 2009 31mm datajust, ref. 178271 have papers or card?

I’m not sure, but someone will know. My “P” serial circa 2000, is paper. All my others, 2012 and up, are plastic.

OK, not good... so sounds like punched papers (no plastic card) would not be legitimately possible in 2009?

Is it possible the watch sat unsold for 2-3 years? Not too far fetched given the financial crisis during that timeframe. Could this explain why a watch with paper docs has a warranty dated ‘09? Genuinely asking, I don’t know the answer.

I have seen some Z serials with punched papers. This is an early Z serial so it is definitely a possibility. Like others have said, it could have sat at the AD before being purchased.

I follow your logic and am hoping someone can help discern whether this is legit or not. I am considering buying this watch for a gift for a momentous occasion and want to do my best to ensure it is all legitimate / genuine.

The watch is a 2-tone SS/Rose Gold with pink dial, date just 31 with stick markers on a jubilee bracelet.

It's possible that it was sold late since it's not exactly that popular of a model. If it's from a good seller I think you're ok.
