Thoughts on this 1980 1655?

I'm considering purchasing this 1655. It includes box but no papers and sales history from a prominent auction house. I'd likely leave everything alone, just a bracelet cleanup and have the enamel on numbers redone by LA Watch Works. I have little history with vintage but the seller is local and trusted (I took these photos in person).

The photos are terrible, but my gut feeling is that the dial and hands are service. Is that disclosed?

Yes, it's a service dial, and I assume hands. Are you ok with that? Bezel is not service, so probably original. What is the ask?

Good to know, thanks for the heads up. I'll probably pass on it.

The original dial was replaced with an authentic Rolex replacement dial when the watch was serviced at some point. For a watch like this, the value is decreased significantly, I would guess something like a 40-50% depreciation.

What is the case number

The dial is definitely a later model probably type 5 but not really a device dial, usually device dial says “ Swiss”

This is a later dial ( found in later models ) in an earlier ( I suspect ) model

Case number would be important

Check the "E"s in EXPLORER and the shape of the coronet. IMO, it's a tritium service dial. But let's hear other opinions.

OP, what did you end up deciding with this watch?

According to the below pic, the dial appears to be a mk6 service dial. Notice the placement of the L in “perpetual” and how it aligns with the X in “Rolex”
