Is the Milgauss a sport watch or a dress watch?

If we're defining it by the master catalogue, it's a dress watch, as it isn't categorised in the professional range. As it also uses the same case as the DD II and DJ II, I think there is a strong case to call it a dress watch. i think it's confused! just joking... but seriously, it's performs like a sports model but with a dressier look. i would say, it's one of Rolex's most versatile models.

Ive not heard that before. The Milgauss has got a very deep case as it has the faraday cage with 2 case backs. It would seem an unusual design for the DJII + DDII to have such a large case without the faraday cage.

I was referring to the diameter of the it, unfortunately I've not been able to compare side by side the depths of the watches. Good call on that

I never understood the hype behind the Milgauss until I actually wore it; Instead of sport or dressy I'm going to put in a vote for "everyday sexy"

It looked great when I was wearing a golf shirt and I'm sure it would look just as good if not better in a suit - Bond style

Since I have never seen this piece in person, when I think of this watch I think of someone wearing a lab coat working in a scientific environment of some sort.............

When it was re-released Rolex categorized it in the Professional Line on their website. It does look dressier than the other Professional models because it lacks a bezel.

I wear mine everyday with anything from casual to dress clothes and it always fits in just fine. I love the weight of of compared to many dress watches or even slimmer models like the GMT.

Flying Jumbo Jets for Pan Am wasn't a sport either, but the GMT is most often thought of as being with the 'sports model' range.

The GMTIIC has polished center links and I do consider it a sports/tool watch. It has the triple lock crown and a chunk of metal case. That baby can go through the rough and tumble.

As for the Milgauss, well that is a Rolex icon of horological excellence to meet the needs of scientists working in electromagnetic fields, or if you are like me, you just love the design with its cool green crystal and otherwise simple designed dial, with the quirky orange second hand.

I don't think it's a "gimmick," it's a decoration. Rolex isn't pretending the lightning-bolt serves any essential, practical purpose.

It is definitely a bit whimsical, but frankly so is the ridiculous DSSD and too-busy-by-half Daytona. That's kind of the point of these things.

I still say its a dress watch (all be it a nice one that I'd love to own).

I must admit I have never seen a 'sports' section in any Rolex brochure only a 'professional' section.
The last time I looked the Sub,SD,DSSD,GMT,Yatchy,Daytona and Expy were all in it but no sign of the milgauss.....

I understand its heritage and its function but its just a large dresswatch IMO
