Tudor 4453 advice needed
i'm being offered a tudor 4453 (circa 1945-50) in as-is condition for about $350. i've attached pictures below. it is certainly not a babied watch.
the seller doesn't have any box or papers. the watch is NOT working. the seller says it is because the winding screw is broken. i'm guessing the winding rotor is broken. he will let me inspect it in person (though i haven't yet), but won't let me send it to a repair shop for an estimate. being rather inexperienced in these matters, i thought i'd seek help in this forum. 1. how much might a rotor replacement cost? 2. how much might a general service cost? 3. how much might it cost for a refurbishment (strap polish etc.) 4. how much might it cost for replacing the dial, and is this suggested? 5. is this asking price generally ok or way out of the ballpark? 6. from whatever can be inferred from the pictures, does anything alarming stand out (i don't suspect it to be a fake, but still...) thank you in advance for any answers. many regards. |

I voted "yes" but only with the caveat that YOU must really love the watch. This is not an investment in any form. The dial is repainted. Looks "small" to me, do you have a measurement? You probably WON'T find an original dial to fit this. If the bracelet is original and Rolex-signed, the bracelet may be the most valuable part of the watch. Even if unsigned, if it's a 17mm rivet bracelet, it fits bubblebacks and may be worth $150-200. Don't know if this helps. $350 is definitely a retail price.

Winding rotor isn't broken because there isn't one, it's a manual wind watch. Dial is redone so there's not much there of interest past the bracelet possibly. Hard pass for me.
